Angry

:bang: First off Hi to all of you fellow stangers out there. Next I have a really dumb question. I have a 2001 convertible gt. It has a Paxton Novi 1000 and host of other goodies, My main concern is what should I put on first to tighten up the wobble and shake that is common with verts, the subframes or the strut tower brace? I know they are both some what in expensive and could buy both at the same time, my wife seems to disagree after spendiing a good amount on a supercharger and rims and tires. Any suggestions?

Welcome.

In my opinion I would go with Subs first. They would add 'stiffness' to the entire car (meaning more power to the ground with less chassis flex), as opposed to just the front end. If you do purchase Subs make sure you get them welded in place, as opposed to just bolted on.

When you get a chance post some pics!

I Agree with every word of his post... from the welcome, to the subframes, to the pics

Yeah, me too.

I'm considering taking the bolted on ones off mine and replacing with welded at some point. But don't know when.

DO IT SOON!!!!! The less miles your car has the better. Yes I am a HUGE supporter of subframes.

You're not hitting on me, are you?

But, yeah, I'm glad I have bolted ones ... but I'd feel better with welded super-duty ones!

Well put.

I don't know if it is this way with late models, but in the classic Mustang world, it is common practice to buy the bolt-in SFCs and weld them on.

Subframes make a world of difference, even the POS Ford ones on my Mach made huge difference over nothing on my previous GT. BTW are strut tower braces really worth it?

I think STB's are only worth it in a road racing application. And even then a few RR's will challenge their effect with their lap times. One person is Gene Fine (well known racer in the modular world). His laptimes with and without his STB are like .02 difference (which can be tossed up to many different variables or just going into a turn at a slightly different MPH)

Follow up as the SFCs seem to be the way to go, as I have been thinking the same thing...who do you get to weld them on?

you can probably have a muffler shop install em, but honestly try to go to someone who has experienced welding em on. MOST IMPORTANT thing to remember, have the car on a DRIVE ON lift in order to have the suspension at its normal load. This way the car is settled like it is normally while driving. If you lift the car on a frame lift, the unibody design will acctually bend some and if you weld the SBC's on at this point, you will lock the frame in a unnatural posistion.

If ya wanna see how much of a difference it is, put your car on a drive on lift. Climb up and just open and close one of your doors. Notice how it lines up and everything. Now do the same thing on a frame lift. You'll know what i'm talking about.
