how strong is the transmission and rear end in a 94 gt im trying to do a comprehensive list and plan of all the mods i want to do but being a complete novice im not surewhich parts ill need to replace and which i should leave stock. eventually i want to end up with about 600bhp however this will happen progressively not all in one jump. next job is header exhaust throttle body chip and air intake, then internal engine mods and eventually pro charger with intercooler, im also not sure what suspension to run i dont want to drop the car to low as there are lots of speed bumps here in spain

The rear end will hold the 600hp on street tires on the street. If you do alot of hard launchs at the track, go ahead and plan a rebuild. If you ever want to think about putting slicks on it, plan on a rebuild to at least 31 spline axles and carrier, probably a better diff cover as well.

5-spd or auto tranny? A well built auto tranny could hold the power well, but its going to require a valve body made for that power and a torque convertor would be a nice option at the same time.

A 5-speed, t-5 in your case, will not likely hold up to 600hp. It will hold up I think to all of your mods excluding the procharger. Your stock clutch will not however.

I think with anything you want to do, you will be ok with the stock stuff, except maybe a clutch with all your mods except the pro-charger. Once you go with a poweradder and add that much to a setup, its going to find the weakest link, which will start with your tranny and work its way back.

thanks for that its an auto sorry forgot to mention that. So pretty much im going to be ok with stock setup until i go to the procharger then its new tranny and new torque converter plus shafts etc and probably a stiffer rear set up as well. it will never go down a strip as there arent any here. ok now to start the long process of developing it any recommendations for a chip, header air intake and throttle body combo?

Once you get to that stage, check into some nice built tranny's. Something like a lentech, http://www.lentech.com.

I would talk to a good tranny place and see what they recommend as far as power levels.

With a 5.0 based setup, a strong Head/Cam/Intake setup is awesome. I've seen in places like summitracing.com where you can get a matched trick flow setup for around $2200 or so. I think you would still have to get a TB and other parts, but a well matched kit will be good in teh long run to help you keep it streetable.
