Transmission Help PLEASE
To start off, I have a 2003 Mach 1 mustang with 97,000 miles on it and equipped with the automatic overdrive transmission (AOD). I have been having transmission problems for a month and finally decided to take it in. Turns out my transmission needs to be replaced, and it's beyond the point of just needing a "rebuild". Would you recommend me replacing the transmission with an automatic like I currently have or a manual (Is there a large price difference?) Or do you think replacing the transmission isn't worth it at this point in time. All and any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

To do a manual, you will need the pedal assembly inside, I believe a new pcm, new drive shaft, shifter, and many little things....
Replace it with a like unit especially if you are stock. The car would be hard to sell with a bad tranny....repair it a drive the heck out of it.

Pcm can be tuned. Pretty sure drives have will work with manual. It's really not all that hard. Pedal assembly. Clutch cable. Shifter. Pcm tune. Of course you will need flywheel and a clutch. Only need for the pcm tune is to change the way it idles and how it runs when the clutch is depressed at speed. It could run on the automatic tune but would likely stall when you pressed in the clutch at speed because it would try to idle too low. You want the idle up to maintain power steering pressure. I say swap if you really want a manual

Power steering pressure actually decreases as speed increases anyways cause there is more power steering at low speed because the wheels are harder to turn at a stop and low speed. And I don't think, if you use the old pcm, the car would even start cause it wouldn't see a signal from the transmission if you swap it out to a manual.

This isn't my first Rodeo. Swapped a 99 V6 auto to a manual. Retuned pcm. Car starts. Only downside. No clutch switch and no neutral switch. Meaning you can start in gear if you don't pay attention. And I know power steering pressure drops. You swap one and leave the pcm for auto. Drive it and try to turn. The car usually will stall if not stumble to a really low rpm
