I had my 3.55s installed and the dealer put in the wrong speedometer gear. They are "trying to find" the correct one. what happend was the book they have does not show the correct gear for a 1995 5.0 5spd with 3.55s. Not that I do not trust them. I do beleive they will get me the right one, but I do know that there is someone here that can give me the answer so I can at least double check them. The car has factory 245/45 17 inch tires. they put in a 20 tooth gear, which is making speed o meter about 10 mph fast at interstates speed. what do you guys suggest. I want this corrected asp. Any and all help greatly appreciated!

get a DMP SpeedCal, better than a speedo gear as it wont ever wear out and you can always change it later.

The dealership is going to have to get the right one and install at their cost, so I am not wanting to spend any additional money. although that electronic programmer looks neat. I am a bit curious as to how that works with a mechanical speedo.
I am just trying to double check the dealership on getting the right one. I do not want to have to go through this again...
Probably just should have took it to a speed shop rather than a dealership, but I used to work there and for the most trust them. You live and learn I guess.

I called the dealership today, they tell me they will have the correct speedogear for me tomorrow, so maybe I can get in sometime in the next couple days and see if it is truly the right one...wish me luck!

Shoulda got 3.73's!!! I got mine going in next weekend.
However my change will be from 3.27's to 3.73's versus probably 2.73's to 3.55's. You will probably feel a bigger change than I will. Good luck with them getting the right gear.

they ordered me the "red one" which they tell me has 22 teeth., which going from the 20 tooth (sorry don't know the color) will correct for the 10 mph too fast condition...I do not know if it will work but they are installing it tomorrow. So I will find out then.
I did think about getting the 3.73s, however I have a short interstate drive to work and figured it would just make my mpg even worse. I seen gas here yesterday at 2.49 for regular...maybe I should just get a Focus

Well I took the car in today to get it fixed and when it was done was shocked to find out that they actually thought I should pay them an additional $43 to fix the mistake that they made. I refused to pay it and after some time and frustration was given my keys free of charge. My question is this, Is it that difficult to get the right speedogear in the first place?
I was told at first that it was no problem that they would ge the right one by looking at a chart that told them which to use based on gear ratio, trans, and year.
Then when the wrong one was ordered I find out that the combination that I had was not on the chart (as if no one ever thought of putting 3.55s behind a 95 5.0 5spd) I would have never believed this had I not seen the chart with my own eyes at this point...
Then today they tried to charge me because supposedly "picking the correct gear is not an exact science." I am confused. I know the dealership was probably the wrong place to take it for this, but these guys are my friends and I even have family working there.
I also know that I paid WAY TOO MUCH for them to do it (7.1 hours of labor for ring and pinion, new bearings and what not, plus speedogear change). So there was no way I was going to pay for anymore labor or an additional gear to replace the wrong one they ordered. My last bill was over 700 and I supplied the ring and pinion! I know I am ranting, but I guess I really just want to know if there is an easy way to pick the right one, or are they yanking my chain? Please somebody let me know if you know the answer to this.

Thank you so much. I think according to the chart, I still do not have the correct one, because I was told that they were replacing a 20 tooth with a 22 and that one says I need a 23 tooth...oh well. I will see how close it is and I may just decide to live with it, or at least have someone else fix it.

Like I said, check into a Speedcal. Run your stock Speedo gear and then use the speedcal to electronically adjust for any gear/tire ratio changes.
