shift knob replacement for automatic?
installation isn't supposed to be very difficult. there is a screw on the front of the stock **** that you take out, and i believe its about that easy.
from what i have heard, it sits a little higher than stock.

It looks great, but I’m worried the aluminum will get hot from the sun and I’ll have GT branded on my palm. ;-) You know what would look great? A pistol grip something like on some of the old Dodge Challengers.
I've got one on my 97. Yes it does get hot when the sun is directly on it but I assure you I have no pony branded on my palm.
As far as installation it wasn't too bad. The hardest part was removing the old shifter. You remove the screw, then twist the old shifter off. Mine wasn't budging so I was put some more muscle into it and ripped it right off. Luckily the OD wires just ripped out of the top of the shifter and not the shaft. Connect the wires, then you put the new OD switch on with a screw followed by the new shifter and screw that into place. That about covers it. Here's some pics of mine.

Hey niteryda, I was just wondering where you got that shifter boot for your aod shifter. I remember seeing one on a website a few months ago but i can't remember what it was. And also how is it w/o being able to see what gear you're in? I think I'm definitely going to have to get one of the pony shift *****.

As far as knowing what gear I'm in it's no problem at all. You can just tell if it's in the right position or not.
thanks guys. I think I found a boot over here -> http://www.v6mustangstuff.com/UPR2.htm But I'm not really sure if I'm up for paying $120 for the combo. So if anybody knows where I could find another boot for cheaper, let me know. Oh and by the way about the shifting I figured that it wouldn't be different because I realized that I almost never look down at it anyways.
yeah man that shifter looks good with the leather boot around it. wish ford did something like that from the factory. and the could incorporate lights on the dash to let you know what gear you are in. but w/o is one click down is reverse. and then pull down till it clicks and that is drive. well assuming it still works like it did with the orig handle
