where i work at there is a white 96 to 98 gt with a black removable hard-top. i thought only in 95 they had the cobra with a removable hard-top, and that was the only year they did that. can anyone tell me if the owner customized it to that or if they accutally made another year with that option. me and my friend can not figure it out or agree on it.

I saw a Cobra with a hardtop a couple of years ago at a FFW and spoke to the owner. If my recollection is correct, the hardtop was available for two model years and was an option for the Cobra only. He might have told me that the reason why it was available a second year was because it was not a good seller and there were some left over.

It was offered for the 94. I still have the brochure, and the manual discusses how to install/uninstall the hardtop.

Only 500 were made. If thats an authentic ford hardtop, ONLY the top is rare, not the mustang. Dispite being offered in 94, 1995 svt cobra convertibles came standard with one (which only 499 exist.) Which makes me wonder why they tried so hard to market it for the 94, and not sell any at all. This also means that you CANNOT still buy them from ford. I do believe some aftermarket companies make them for the price that was mentioned however. You can purchase one here: http://www.hardtops.biz/ But they look a little weird in the back.

I never saw/heard of a GT with the removeable hardtop, only Cobras, and the lone v6 you see in the brochure.

I have only seen one it was a 95 triple black cobra. Guy in tn had it at a carshow. I know they are worth a good bit of money now. Just like the mustang gts coupes from 94/95.

So basically, the car you saw wasnt rare... ...but its still cool to see. I've never seen anyone in real life with a removable hardtop mustang. ...course I've never seen anyone with my speedster covers. Its just something cool to see, and nothing more.

I have a 95 Cobra convertible with a removable hardtop. I originally had a 94 GT with a removable hardtop on order, but Ford cancelled the order and changed it to a 95 GT with a removable hardtop. After quite some time, they called and told me they were not going to make them at all. Later I found that they did make them on the 95 Cobra and found one in Denver for sale. I have not seen or heard of any other year that they have made these for.

I forgot the website but they were selling the removable hardtops for $900 and it only weighed 8 or 9lbs. They made them for the 99-04s and they were starting to design one for the 05+'s
