Any Mach driver here knows it's hard to keep it under the speed limit! How many of you use a detector and what seems to work good? I bought a Whistler 1743, and reallyl have not got to use it much yet. Have not met any on the open road to really tell how good it does. But so far it would seem I may know they are there before the radar does..........granted the conditions it has gone off have been different...like 2 sitting under an internet exit underpass....thus not being able to get a reading till coming off the interstate...things like that...any ideas or stories to share?

It always seemed anytime I bought/used a radar detector I always got speeding tix. I've been without one for 15 years now and haven't had a single ticket. That's not to say I haven't bent the speed limit but it seems that the detectors always gave me a false sense of security. With all the new stuff police have out now you'd have to spend 3-400 bucks on one just to be up to date, lol

I used to have a radar detector in the 80s, but I have been told the new police equipment is better. Plus you might get fines for having one.

Stealth technology is needed on the new stang!

This is true!!! I feel the "instincts" work the best...I just found myself speeding without realising it with my new Mach!!! Hoped maybe it may remind me to slow down! Just hope it's not too late when/if it does.

I agree. Get a Valentine One, but remember it's not going to do a thing for you if they use instant on radar unless you're well back from somebody in front of you.

Agreed, I think Valentine One probably has the best on the market from what I heard from people that owned them

radar detectors are junk... most cops dont run radar all the time which is needed for you to detect it in the first place. they leave it off and turm it on when they see u speeding... so ur first detection is you gettin nailed.

The Valentine 1 is the best one you can buy but don't think your 100% safe. Most cops in my area don't even use the radar. The dirrection arrows on the Valentine are cool though. I have used a few of the cheaper ones and the false alarms are enough to drive you nuts.

The whistler is good, but how can you get good rear and front detection w/that shaker hood in the way and the low rear roof line in the way? It would seem that there wouldnt be any happy medium. Ive put mine in the most ideal place on my coupe(about 6 or 7 inches off of the dash), but if I put it any higher, I wouldnt get good rear detection. If you put that on your windshield where I put mine, you wouldnt get good front detection because of your scoop. (sorry 4 the long message)

I live in Cary, NC....I don't know if anyof "y'all" have ever been, but its a suburb of our capitol Raleigh.
Anyways, the cop here are at about a 5-1 ratio 5 people to each cop, I would say after about 11pm. Yes, they sit in one place with the radar on (probably knapping) and yes I have one...a whistler.

It has paid for itself several times over. FYI Cary is not really a hick-town, more of a transplant area, being that SAS, IBM, GSK, AOLTW, and several other tech firms basically keep our standard of living expensive. (Just so you don't think its like a mayberry type of setup)

Really I just like to know where the police are, i avg about 5-10 over in town, but if I wanna "blow out the carbs" (yes I know my car isn't carb'ed, but thats what my uncle calls it....I wait till Im out in the woods to "get'up on'it!"

My Valentine One is hard-wired, and nicely situated at the top of the windshield, clipped into the headliner just above the rear view mirror. I need to upgrade to laser detection, though, because as many times as it has saved me, my ONE ticket in the last 5 years was from a cop with a laser. :bang:

I agree 100%. The only thing that will give you time is a radar jammer. I have a friend who has a radar jammer and it works with the Escort 8500 Radar Detector. I've seen it in action and it does work, but if you're caught with it, expect a major fine ($1000,00 and higher)
