As so of you know I have a 98 GT. Well the clip was broken on the arm rest thing (the piece that has the hole to grab to close the door). So I go to ford and order new piece (black) and I pull it out of the box and the darn thing is a lot lighter black, almost a gray. I take it back saying that it's not the right color and they tell me that I have an older gt and that the color is discontinued. The guy told me that the only way to match the black would be to paint it. Sooo any suggestions on what type of paint to use? I don't want this thing cracking or flaking in 4 months.

Take it to the Ford dealership paint shop and have them do it. Should not cost much. Have thought about having them painted body color, unless your car is black?

How often do you look at the piece in a given week? Almost more importantly... How often do OTHER people look at the clip in a given week? If it's inside the center console 99.5% of the time, just grin and bear it.

Duplicolor make excellent paint for the interior. if you want it shiny black use three coats of black and 4 clear coats. ut get the large can of paint and clearcoat because it is pretty thick and sticky so it splatters in the smaller bottles sometimes.
