Need a spare rubber?

Got my 35th Anniversary LE home yesterday and getting ready to replace the tires since is still wears the originals. Question is when it comes to the spare rubber, it is also the original tiny donut tire/wheel which means it is also 14 years old. While it has been out of the sunlight, it has been sitting in a truck in Texas heat for most of that time.

What is the better way or direction to go for a replacement for a spare? I don't think that there is room in the trunk for a full size replacement tire and wheel....or.....am I incorrect on this assumption?

Thanks for any assistance here.

I would just make sure it holds air and has enough pressure in it. It is only for temp use. With new tires you shouldn't have any problems. Do you have road side on your car ins?

OH Yea, I have road coverage with two different sources, insurance roadside converage and another for our diesel pusher motorhome which also covers any vehicle we are driving.

What Glen said, I'd fill it with air, make sure there's no leaks, then check it again in a month or so to see if it's down.

If you have to get a spare, you should be able to get one at a tire shop.

Just fyi. Those donuts cost around 400-500$ from Firestone.

Well, personally, I hate those darn temporary tires anyway. I'm an "old-school" dude :-) So, I took mine out and replaced it with a standard 16" steel wheel and decent tire. It fits in the trunk nest but is thicker than the donut so it is up proud about 2 inches. But I don't care....at least I have a full sized spare that will drive at normal speeds and distances.

JonerJen's last post waz a year ago. He has since moved onto a VW Jetta TD and loving every minute of it. There's a tire joint every 10 miles so I'm not worried about a spare. Now if I was going through the desert you bet I would want a spare. Big small doesn't matter.
