I work in a mall and a number of cars have been broken into. Just last night 8 cars were hit 2 of them were my employees. They both drive Ford Rangers and there was no sign of forced entry, just a clean removel of their aftermarket in-dash cd players. My question is that my car was parked pretty close to thier vehicles but luckily mine was not hit. If someone does steal my Mach system can they use it in other cars or do they have to use it only in Mustangs? Do I have a smaller chance of getting hit? My concern is that I have the stock security system which prevents vehicle theft but does not do anything in the event my window is busted or my door is forced open. I'v looked into alarms that make noise but I feel people look at the vehicle with its alarm going off as a burden and the theif could just go about their business. Any input would be great, and yes I have to work there and no I will not use South African alarms that blow fire at the robber.

Do you have insurance on your stereo? If not you might want to add it until these people get caught or go somewhere else. I've never heard of the mach stereos getting stolen. I can only speak for myself. My car hasn't been broken into since I've had factory equipment.
If I had an aftermarket player it would have the take-off plate on it.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that they can use the mach head unit in any car. However, unless you have an aftermarket head unit, they most likely won't want to steal the ford head unit. My car came with a silencer security system and that works pretty good. I don't know anything about price or installation however as it was in when I bought it. Good luck!

yeah i have full insurance, ever have over insurance on everything possible. The only problem is i think my deductible is $500. All the stereos that were stolen were bestbuy aftermarket installs, didnt hear if any stock systems were stolen.

I just don't see them going after a stock unit. Too hard to get out. The aftermarket units come right out. Last aftermarket unit I bought had a detachable face on it, which is the only way to go as far as I'm concerned.

the theives probably know the mach system isn't even worth stealing because anything aftermarket is a heck of a lot better.

I dont think a theif would go for the mach. The most they are going to get easily is the headunit/cd player (in a 94-00 car) or take the time to rip the double din unit out of a 01+. Its a PITA and I doubt they would get much money.

Also I do not think the mach460 could be used in other vehicles unless you got the headunit, wiring harness, all amps and speakers since its a complete package and you cant really have one without the other. You can run different speakers however

At which mall do you work? Is it Ontario Mills?? I heard from a coworker that there are a lot of burglaries over there.

yup you nailed it. in one night there was 7 break-ins, 3 of them were my own employees, 2 had alarms. not a singal person caught. that mall has a Ontario Poilce Department and full time 24 hr security force, and no one saw nothing. not to mention the over 11 million guest per year, not seeing anything. the parking lot there is so busy that people fight over open parking spaces thats why im so amazed and frustrated at the fact there is so many break ins. since Victoria Gardens opened the new "real" mall down the street, we are getting more and more "ghetto" people because there is no strict code of conduct at Ontario Mills like there is at Victoria Gardens. I fear it will only get worse.

The mach 460 head unit will not work without the stock amps that are under the rear deck which would be pretty hard for a thief to get. The only thing the mach 460 head unit sends is the audio signal to the amps. There is no amplification going on in the head unit, therefore it wouldn't be able to drive speakers in another car without the stock amp.

For those of you with the two single din units, those pop out in 2 seconds, so if someone wanted them they would have them.

They would be useless without the stock amps, but it doesn't mean an idiot wouldnt't try to take them.

Actually, the head unit powers the front and back small 2.5" speakers (at least on my 04). It sends audio signal to rear amps - one rear amp powers front woofers, other powers rear. It's really a very strange setup (I completely gutted mine). Still, if anyone knew what they were doing they would pass it by as a target for stealing - unless they were bent on replacing an existing HU in a Mustang. But you're right, some idiot might still take it

Are you sure about that TheDBA? Unless ford changed it in 03 or something, there should be an amp mounted on the tranny tunnel back behind the dash under where all of the radio and center consol equipment are.

Sounds like something changed. My 04 GT vert has the Mach460 with 6 CD in-dash changer. It's a pretty big unit (double DIN) so I assume the low power amp is in there. I guess it's possible I left an amp in the front when I gutted the system I'm sure about the rear amps only powering the woofers though.

Yeah I knew about the rear's.. I know on my 96, the 00 I had and the 01 I put a headunit in, they all had a large silver amp mounted on the floor under the center dash.
