Hi all,

I will be in the market for a new car soon and have decided to limit myself to the f twins and mustangs. I owned a 97 gt vert in the past and I'm currently leaning toward a 2003 or 2004 Mach 1. Is there any difference between the two really? I read on a few sites that the 04 has a little more hp and tq but that is difficult for me to believe. What do both model years offer in hp and tq at the engine and rear wheels? and at what rpms? What do these cars run bone stock in the 1/4? I've seen some low 13 second posts here and that is pretty darn good. Are these Mach 1's really faster than the brand new 05' GTs???

Thank you for all of your upcoming opinions and comments!!!

Thanks,
Paul

I don't think there's any real difference between the 03/04s. As far as quarter mile times, I've seen them in the mid-high 13s. I'm a perfect example of a bad driver for 1/4 mile so my times don't count. (Low 14s) As far as which is faster, the Mach 1 or the 05 GT? I'd say its more of a driver's race. Also a few mods to one or the other will tip the balance. I've read that both respond well to 4.10s.

I haven't heard about any magazine comparisons yet, but I would be very interested to hear if one was done.

I believe the only difference between the two years were the colors.
May I reccomend Azure Blue if you decide to go with a Mach It looks awesome and was a Mach only color

From what I understand, there was a calibration change in the engine computer in '04 to compensate for the catalysts going from 4 ('03 model) to 6 ('04 model). The net effect was to keep the engine output the same. Some places do quote higher numbers for the '04 but from what many on the Mach 1 Registry have found, Ford supposedly did not officially change the numbers.

What do both model years offer in hp and tq at the engine and rear wheels? and at what rpms?
engine: 305hp at 6000rpm, 320 ft-lb torque at 4250
rear wheel: depends on many variables, but roughly 270-280 hp, 290-300 ft-lb at the RPM levels above

What do these cars run bone stock in the 1/4? I've seen some low 13 second posts here and that is pretty darn good.
again, dependent on many variables, but roughly 13.5 to 13.8 at 103-105 mph

Are these Mach 1's really faster than the brand new 05' GTs???
In many of the published auto tests, they are close in the 0-60 mph acceleration runs (low 5 second range), with the Mach having a slight edge in the 1/4 mile (GTs running in the high 13 sec, 98-101 mph range). In short, they are competitive. The Mach's higher redline (6800 vs. 6000 for the GT) appears to make a difference.

Hey guys I had to post here.03-04 Mach 5speeds will runs 13.2 at 105mph with a capabale driver.Average is 13.5 at 103mph.My automatic ran 13.58 at 103.83 with SLP catback. The difference in 03-04 is tune and 6cats on the 04.Valvecovers are different colors.Autos have quieter mufflers than 5speed cars.04 has tuffer EPA standards.hope this helps.
