I want old school Flamethrowers in my modern day 2000 GT. I've read they are not designed for "emissions controlled vehicles".

Can anyone help me out on this?

 

The reason they say they are not designed for emissions controlled vehicles, as these "flames" are created by igniting unburned fuel vapors in the exhaust. New cars burn these off via catalytic convertors. I personally would refrain from it in the event that the flames reached my paint somehow.

There are some sites that make kits for doing this. Do a google search and you should be able to find it.

 

I currently have a 2 cat Bassani X with Borla Sportman(straight-through) mufflers.

Paint is overrated. My car is well cared for, but it's begging me for a heightened evil factor. I was hoping someone here has experience with this.

I'm not sure why you'd want to actually do this, but the best way to do this is (IMO) to get a set of LTs, an O/R X, and racing (non-chambered) mufflers and add a blower with a BOV after the MAF, you'll get a lot of flames

Plus an increase in power!!!

 

You can make a system using propane and a tank in the trunk, but because of the heat generated, I don't think a plastic rear bumper would last long. Seriously, I saw this seyup on a local 55 Chevy, and while cool, I felt the heat from the flames, and I was over 20 ft away. A plastic bumper would begin to melt in about 20 seconds.

 

I remember my step-dad's face lighting up when he told me about his old car that had flames shoot out the exhaust. Wish I could have seen it.
