Hey!

Ok guys i just found two engines i could get some sweet deals on. I can a new 5.0 engine and drop that in my 02 GT (tranny and everything else i need) for about $6,500. Or i can a 351 engine and the new tremec 6 speed for about $8,000 (supporting parts included) what would yall say? I know its gonna be a pain in the *** to drop em in but ive been wantin to do this for a while.

The new 5.0(OHC), or a new 5.0(OHV)?

If the questions is about the new OHC 5.0 then I say go with that in a heart beat. The computer you have obviously won't work with it, but the motor mounts are the same as the 4.6 IIRC. That in itself takes a load of the work out, because at least then you can kind of have a starting place. Not to mention the power and torque of the new motor, plus the efficiency of variable valve timing. It's a win win.

If the question is 302 or 351, I'm not really sure what to say, because I can't imagine a reason you'd want to go back to stone age tech like that.

There is no doubt that the 351 will put down good numbers, but I can't imagine the power would outweigh the weight savings of an all aluminum motor. If your car was a 94-95 I would probably have a different thought, but I just don't see a point in transplanting an older motor.

Yea i see whatyour sayin. Plus the new aluminum is a dual overhead so higher and quicker revs so its much faster into the power band as well

That's an incredible deal for the new 5.0 and trans. There's no way I would pass that up. Going to need the new ECU and probably will have to get headers made and replace the K-member and some of the fuel system but if you can get the engine and trans for under 7K, you should go for it.
