Have an exhaust question
I have an 03 gt and was looking to put exhaust on my car but I am a little confused what I need to get. I want to get Borla stingers because I like the sound of them. My biggest question is with the mid-pipe. Does buying a cat-back system replace my stock h-pipe? If it does, is it a waste of money to then buy a Bassani x-pipe?

Cat-back systems do not replace the stock H-pipe. IMO, you'll really like the x-pipe with the Borlas. Magnaflow also makes a really good x-pipe.
Houstonperformance.com has great prices on exhaust and sells both Bassani and Magnaflow. I've purchased from them in the past and they are great to work with.
My $0.02.

Cat-backs do not replace the midpipe. The factory H-pipe has the convertors built into it, and the cat-back replaces the exhaust from the cats back- hence, no mid-pipe exchange. A Bassani X-pipe will bolt up to just about any after-cat ehaust system, but you need to choose between a catted or off-road X-pipe.

Very noticable. A lot deeper and a bit louder without the cats. With the stingers, you had had better love a loud car, because that's what you're gonna have. By the way, youre really lucky to have no emmissions testing, so appreciate it!

Ya, thats whats my friends are saying. I really don't mind it being loud (used to my friend's 74 camaro with 3'' ehaust) but I don't want to be ticketed for it being illeagally loud. Thats my biggest concern.

Also, should I have any other mods done to my car before I do the exhaust? Like, do I need any engine mods before I do this? I have a cold air intake that came with the car, but since I bought it used I really don't know anything else about what has been done.

Borla's aren't illegally loud (except maybe in Cali) unless you cut off the Mufflers. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry.
A few people here will probably tell you to get a new CAI since you don't know how old it is. Just inspect it carefully, look for signs of oldness, I'd get a new filter deffently, get a K&N, they kick ****. Also, after you do the exhaust, I'd get a tune. You can either buy a flash tuner or get a shop to do it. If you buy, I reccoment Hypertech. I believe there's a rep for them on this board so he'll be able to tell you more on why they are one of the best. I'll be buying one soon myself.

Just out of personal preference, I wont run a o/r pipe anymore. I guess after a VRS o/r x-pipe with flowmasters then magnaflows, and then a o/r h-pipe and magnaflows, I am getting old and i'd rather have it a bit quieter and smoother. Catted pipes still make great power and sound good to boot

Why not get the best of both worlds.......perhaps an SLP modular system like I did. This way you can switch between cats and race pipes simply by loosening the clamps and replacing with the pipe/cat and retighten. The SLP is all SS and a very high quality.
