Gear install...

Finally bought my gear kit. Now I really want to do it myself for experience purposes but what do you guys suggest? Should I get a shop to do it or should I go for it? I do have all the tools.

I would go for it man as long as you have jack stands and the right tools. How old is the stang? May be a good idea to change rear wheel bearings and the pinion deal. I did that when I changed the gears to 4.10 on my 04 stang

It's a 97 and yes I bought the kit from American Muscle which has everything I need. The only thing I would worry about is having the right backlash and making the gear have good contact with the ring. Hmm

I bought mine from AM also and followed the instructions they gave and it worked like a charm if I could make a suggestion I would get mobile 1 synthetic gear oil and the additive from ford. If you have good sunlight and any mechanical knowledge you'll be 100% fine

If it's your daily driver, I wouldn't try to do it without prior experience. If it's your weekend fun car, etc. then I think it'd be an awesome job to take on. Just don't hurry and try to get it done ASAP. Take your time with it. Maybe you can rent/borrow the backlash measuring tools from your local auto parts store..? If mine wasn't my daily driver, there is a lot more stuff I'd be doing, like replacing my clutch, etc. I just can't risk any long downtime if I'm having troubles ya know.
