Fuel Pump Won't Prime

Hey guys,

I hopped in my Mustang for the first time in 6 months, turned the key and all looked and sounded fine - aux lights/dash came on- but I can't hear the fuel pump prime. When I go to start it the starter spins well, but no dice on getting it to start. I replaced the battery out of guilt for letting the car sit so long, and I checked the fuse. I looked at the relay in the trunk, and I could not hear it click to turn on like I would expect a relay to do, but I'm unsure of how audible it should be. Any thing I should try? Thanks! Good to be back on TMS

How much fuel is in the car? You can cycle the key a time or two then check the valve on the fuel rail for pressure. Don't stand in the line of fire when you check for pressure

About half a tank. I assume the pump won't prime if the rail already detects pressure. Is that correct?

Sounds like the pump is toast.

Any way to check without pulling the tank? I don't like pulling a tank with that much gas.

I thin it will cycle briefly after pressure is built up. Do you know of the valve that I am talking about on the fuel rail?

My 92 did this a few years ago. Stored it live every other winter since 92 and all of a sudden the pump wouldn't prime. Confirmed voltage at the emergency cut off switch (have you checked that?) and dropped the tank to find two wires were shorted against the metal hanger inside the tank. By then I already had a new pump in hand so went ahead and installed it anyway. Fired elroght up after that. Good luck.
