Cobra SVT HP

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/1994-1...d-mustang7.htm I always thought 240 was the wrong HP number for my Cobra SVT. It just seemed wrong to have the same HP as a GT when it has GT40 heads and GT40 upper and lower intakes.

The gt of those years had 215 hp, so your 240 makes sence. The gt40 heads were better but not amazing when compared to a stock gt. If you think about it, the 99 cobra has 310 hp.

Actually the book I have and the two articles I've read state that the '94 had 240. When they made the '95 they used GT40 heads and matching GT40 upper and lower intakes for a gain of 50HP making the '95 Cobra SVT 290HP

The 95 cobra used the same 240hp motor as te 94. The 95r had a 300hp 5.8l motor.

https://themustangsource.com/timelin...8/95/index.htm

The 96-98 gts were in the 215 hp range.

The 96-98 cobra was 305 and 99/01 were 320 (although the 99 was over rated and had a recall to correct power issues)

In the Mustang 35th anniversary book I have it states the same thing as the above link I posted. The GTS was never actually sold it was yanked before production and the '94 Cobra had 240 HP while the '95 had 290HP because of the intake

The 290 hp was attained with a package from SVO. It wasn't stock. The 95 cobra, if I remember correctly, had cast iron gt40 heads and the package offered by SVO was aluminum heads and intake. That's what gave them the extra horses, but it was an addition kit offered, it was not stock on the 95 cobra.

They never actually yanked the gts. It was basically a stripped base model with a v8

No it was a seperate model. The hardtop convertables were a rare option for the cobras. I don't know the exact years but I want to say 96-98. There were a very few of those made though.

The GTS was basically a V6 body (no spoiler, manual locks and windows, etc) with a V8 drivetrain.
