Cobra shortblock

I know a guy who is selling a high mileage motor out of a 03 cobra. I want to use it for my car so I can put more power on it. He wants 1400 for it and it's got 100k miles. I was thinking of bringing it to the machine shop to have it checked over new bearings, rings, etc... Was wondering of its worth it maybe even new pistons know it's the weakest point In those motors. I think it is a good deal for a forged internal block. Questions are is it worth it, can I build one cheaper (from experience), and what so machine shops usually run for that kind of stuff? I want to do it right while I have the time but money is right so I want to do it in steps.

I personally would buy an MMR or dss short block. You can get them for around 2500 and they are new. I think its a good price for the short block if nothing is wrong with it. What if it has a spun bearing and cracked piston? Rebuild plus machining everything is going to be more than 2500. But thats just me man. Machine shops are not cheap. Neither are rebuilds
