Chance to pickup a 97 cobra!

My best friend might be interested in selling his 97 cobra and was wondering what some of the owners thought about these cars. I know it has exhaust, aluminum drive shaft, and 410 gears. Im sure it has a few other things im missing. The car needs new paint, new seats, and some other things. It also has a few dings, and a big dent in the right rear quarter. Car has over 100k miles on it. What should i look to pay for a car like this and would it be worth getting in to? Thanks!!

I received my cobra in July of 2010 with 123k on her paint wasn't perfect but I got over it have 151k on her to this date. She's a fun car and has been my daily driver since I got her. My dad got the car for $7k, there is a very clean low mileage cobra for sale around here that has been for sale for the last year or so and he just can't get the $9k he is asking for it

The condition and mileage you described, I wouldn't pay more that $5500. If you plan on fixing all the things wrong with it (interior, body damage) you are looking at a lot of money to fix it. In my area I've seem pristine 96-98 Cobras selling between 7-9k. I know someone that has a 1998 model with only 24k on it, asking $10,000 and he has had the car for sale for over a year now.

If your not totally sold on the 1996-98 Cobra i'd personally keep an eye out for a 1999-04 GT, they are just as fast and usually a better bargain. I know its not the car in question but something to look out for.

Good luck whatever you choose to do.

Im not really looking for the speed, i just want another cobra and would like to restore one for my son one day, plus i had some really good times in the cobra. And about the 99-04, i had a 02 so i want something different. Ive also considered a 93 cobra but there a little pricy. Looking to spend no more than 5 grand on a car

I hear ya, personally I think the 96-98 Cobras are some of the best looking 4th gen Mustangs. If you are interested in restoration, I'd say go for it but I wouldn't pay much more than 5k. I thought you were looking for the best bargain.
