well today my dad was driving the cobra to work in snow like everyday. he was driving on a flat road and the drivers side rear wheel magically almost comes off but was held on by the lugs on the rotor...he called me and my mom so we got up and went to where he was at. we sat and waited and got it towed to russ milne ford....as we were driving behind in my moms f150 we notice the control arm is hanging too. we get to our dealership and the guy looks at it and didnt know what happend......this was at 6 in the morning... he said it would probly be around 550 dollars to get it fixed but he didnt know what it was. and wile we were there i finally saw and touched a 2004 gt40 anyways.....i went to school and came home and they said the dealer looked at it and it was gonna be 1500 dollars to fix it now, they tryed to say my dad hit a pothole wich he didnt cuz there was nothing on the road and the bearing in the nuckle heated up and desinigrated and caused the control arm to snap and thats what made it fall apart.okay...we thought it had to do with the brakes beacuse wen my dad looked at the wheel he said the rotor was glowing orange.3 days before me and my sister where driving at and we werent being idiots and we started to hear that wheel squeeking like it was the brakes....we pulled over and couldent tell.....my dad looked at the rotor and it was perfectly smooth and nothing was the matter. obviously it was the bearing... soo it wont even get looked at by the insurance company till monday.....has anybody had this happen?

A bearing failure caused a control arm to break?

So..........It is better for strait line performance (thats me) the IRS is not so good for handling though if it breaks.

The IRS is defintely a nice piece for a street car that is more geared towards cruising and handling. It can handle the cobra's power fine even in a stop light run situation.

Let us know what hte dealer says.

finally a week later we get the car back.......looking at the new tire was funny noticing the tread it had, unlike the other rear tire. what we thought went wrong was right the bearing did fail and it caused this catastrophy(sp) anyways we had to pay 50 dollars and that was it.

I wouldn't complain if I were you.....you are lucky to even GET a car like that GIVEN to you!!

I ended up with a '79 Cadillac Seville Diesel when I turned 16(this was 1987) and I was thankful for that!!! 8 months later I sold it, combined that money with my life savings and bought a '68 Coupe and still had to learn to wrench on it...

i got a 95 v6 at 17
99 GT 'Roush' at 18 and
03 Cobra at 19

o and by "got" i mean i worked my little self to death to buy them all, and pay my own insurance. That didnt stop all the kids at school for hating me and saying my parents bought them. I just let them talk though. But I would never have turned down any free car in any condition, let alone a 99 snake. Consider yourself lucky.

brake pads are not hard to install at all...take the wheel off. take the caliper off, and theres your brake pads. make sure you have channel locks or one of them fancy 5 dollar pad pushers (10 dollars if its from snap-on) to push the piston back in to fit the new pads in.
