Brake help
I installed new pads about 2 weeks ago on the front. They were squeeling coasting and the noise would go away when applying the brakes. I used grease on the clips and tightened everything as it should be. The noise went away. Occasionally it would squeek a little still though while coasting. It was intermittent though. Well the squeeking seems to have stopped but now when stopping under 5 mph, the brakes are making like a grab or clunking noise that can be felt in the brake pedal. New rotors? Help..
how many miles are on the car? I ask because maybe you have a caliper problem. How did the rotors look when you replaced the pads? Does it feel like the car stops smoothly or does it seem to have a stop and go feel to it?
If you didn't turn the rotors and break in the new pads then that may be the squealing and clunking. Or you didn't tighten everything right. Check the bolts again. You BREED to turn/ replace the rotors when replacing brake pads.

The car seems to stop smoothly. Just a noticeable knock or cluck occasionally when braking under 5mph. Car just turned 80k on the clock. I didn't replace anything but the pads. It weird it has been a couple weeks since I replaced them and the first time it happened was today
Definitely make sure everything is tight. And if you didn't get the rotors turned, then do so ($15 each at o'reillys). Other than that, I'd say just give them some time to break in and see if it goes away.

jack it up and spin the wheel, see if it hangs up at all. Spin the wheel as fast as you can and have someone hit the brakes lightly, spin the wheel again have someone hit the brakes hard then let off and see how easily the tire spins. Report back!

Well good news. It's fixed. Bad news is I'm a complete idiot. I should be ashamed lol. So I did the brakes at this little place we have here on fort Lewis. You can use this building full of car lifts for 4 dollars an hour per lift. You can also use their tools. So when I put the wheels back on after the initaI brake job, i used their impact wrench. Well when I went back today to try and diagnose the brakes. All the impact guns were being used. So I used my breaker bar that I brought. When I went to loosen the lug nuts I had to apply almost zero pressure to them and they turned loose. When I saw this I knew right away that was the problem. I almost didn't even bother to take the wheel off. I did though just to be sure. Everything I tighten with my sockets was good the pads looked good. I tighten it back up. Put the wheel back on and tightened it with my breaker bar. Guess what.. No noise at all. So I guess we can put a hash mark in my retard column. Thanks for all your help though gents. I'm still happy it was something easy to fix. Imagine that if your wheels aren't tight they make noises.

That is so freaking cool that there is a place like that!!!! I wish there was something like that where I lived!
When I was in the Service, where I was stationed there were personal vehicle "Hobby Shops". It was a huge open warehouse with 20 - 25 Self-service lift bay areas that you could rent per hour. Also on site was a Tool room that had every tool under the sun that you could rent too! Volunteer Gear-heads would donate their time and go from bay to bay to see if you needed any help or advice. I wish there was a place like that where I live now. Especially after the ordeal I went thru last weekend changing my Transmission filter and fluid on self maintenance service ramps. Geez!
It certainly allows you to do many things that you would normally have to pay to have done or at a minimum have a floor jack and jack stands. Very nice to have around. Providing you check and make sure your lug nuts are tight by hand when your done working. Lol

Glad you didn't lose a wheel while you were on the road. And I wish the bays here were that cheap...$10/hr or $20/hr with a lift.
