which is better

I currently own a 2001 black bullit. Very clean low mileage I want to start Modding other than the straight pipes it has now which sound nice BTW I'm debating between a jlt bullitt air intake or some Bbk headers Shorty an input on which would be a better HP/$ choice

You'd most likly get similar gains with each, JLT I'm guessing is cheaper then headers so you'd be better off there. I was going to suggest going with an off-road x-pipe first but it seems you have already done so!

Is your mind set on those two modifications at present time? If not, why not think about an upgraded shifter (MGW, Steeda, etc.) or an aluminum driveshaft?

I've never used an aftermarket shifter so I dnt know what to expect with that. I expect the aluminum drive shaft frees up gas mileage? Is it a noticeable power change?

Both the CAI and headers will be more so on top end power.

Get a SCT tuner and get a race tune for whatever the highest octane level your area has.

Order from American Muscle as they give free tunes for life so you can get it retuned with each new mod you get. The tune is where you will see those kind of gains.

Or gears like 3.73 or 4.10.

future9er24 put the JLT on his Bullitt, and the power difference was very noticeable. I would also look into a shifter. I have the MGW, and it's really, really nice. future9er24 has the Steeda, and it's a nice piece as well, so just pick your poison on that one.

Anybody have an opinion on throttle body spacers? For 30 bucks it can't hurt.. Are the shifters just shorter in general therefore making it feel like shorter throws?

The JLT is an excellent CAI kit for the Bullitt Over the years,I have added the Steeda Tri-Ax shifter,3.73 gear,Kooks stainless LT headers, SCT tune, and the JLT CAI,which I further modified with a large scoop inside the front nose of the car.
Has run a 13.17 at 105.6 on drag radials.

I'll echo what alot of the guys here said, a shifter is a great mod. Doesnt give power, but makes driving the car alot more enjoyable.

As for a CAI vs Header... prob around same gains, CAI will be cheaper and MUCH easier to install. Headers are a pain on 4.6 cars.

I'm looking in to some shifters. They have decent priced ones on American muscle. I'm thinking about going steeda. LTs on a 4.6 do they require fabrication or will an o/r x bolt right up?

You will tell noticable difference with 3.73s. I do somewhat wish i would have done 3.90 or 4.10s though but i am happy with the difference 3.73s made. Short throw is no doubt one of the first mods i would do though. Then if you want the power of a supercharger at much less cost then throw on a zex nitrous kit. With that and a flip tune you would be happy. Theres a ton of mods that you can do and you name it i probably have it but nothing is like nitrous

Well pretty much i cant use first. Spins like crazy when nitrous kicks in. If i dont spray i would say i just lose a few mph off the gear. It really doesnt make the huge difference people expect. Its torquey but not a whole lot faster feeling. It brings my rpms up about 600 cruising around 55-60

Kind of off topic but went to change my plugs today first coil bolt I was undoing broke off so now its just sitting on top the plug no misfire or nothing just a pain to tap the broken screw out. Best part is me an the other mechanic were using vice grips to try an get it out right then an apparently it pushed the fuel rail off the injectors enough to the point they all four squirted gas on me when he went to start it. I loosened the rail an pushed it back on snug (no leaks) but I know when u take the rail off no matter what you have to replace the seals cuz they get flat spots. Yal think since it only barely slipped off on one side I'd be fine leaving it How it is? I'm still gunna change the plugs but I'm gunna try an work around the rails. Is this possible?

Edit- sorry for the long post but are upgraded fuel rails worth it on a n/a car

Shorty headers are a waste if money on these cars. So is a cai. The stocker is already a cai just pull the silencer off the big round airbox. The tri-ax is a great mod tho. I love mine and you will never blow the 2nd to 3rd shift again. Headers is long tubes or don't bother and if you want a cai I have a bbk for a 4.6. I got it in a package deal, installed it. Felt no gain so I put the stocker back on. A tuner, gears is a great mod. I have a 5 speed and I went with 3.90 motive. There is no whine and I can get down the track without grabbing 5th gear. Other then nitrous gears were the best seat of the pants mod I did. As far as driving it the tri-ax was great to. The mgw is a great shifter as is the pro 5.0. All are quality pieces.
