Ok,

My car is on its last legs barely passing the state inspection. I'm in a job transition phase of my life, higher income..of course. My ideal situation was to have 10~15K saved up for a down payment on a SN95(or Mach) or an 05, but after looking at my car and the choice on remaining SN95's I'm scrambling to make a decision.

No offense guys, but I feel more comfortable getting an 04; as the model has been established, I've researched it, asked several owners how it has held up for them etc. The 05 will gain credibility in a few years, but I need something sturdy now, and my dad is very leary about me looking at a domestic car(The Mustang is the only domestic car I've considered).

I think I can scrap 5~7K together for a down payment by Oct/Nov, but my overall question is what kind of range am I looking at for a 04 Premium GT w/ABS?

I've done web research etc etc, but I just wanna hear it from people who have driven off the lots with GT's the deals they've gotten. Thanks.

*s7v7n I am totally in your shoes now * hahaha

I totally did not expect this.

I would look for a SLIGHTLY used GT ('01-04) or Mach 1 ('03-04). If you look around and do some research you can find some nice deals.

I'm looking at the 04......cuz I don't want Speed Racer or Racer X messing up my clutch.

I've seen how some of you guys drive Stangs......I grind my teeth seeing what y'all can do to a car.

you'll probably find something on the lots then.. but your color choices could be limited and/or only have high-optioned cars or oddball models

Ironically enough, I like the Dark Shadow Grey(dunno why), but that seems to be a common one at the lots.

Try calling around find a new 03 GT.I found mine a few weeks ago, never titled. It's an vert with auto as well. After tax/tags,blah blah blah it was 23k out the door. Not bad seeing as it stickered at 33k and is a Centennial Edition.

You should be able to negotiate a great deal on a GT right now. The dealers know once the 05 hit the lots, most people won't give the 04 a second look.

Good Luck and let us know how you make out.

Yea.....I gotta hold on till the 05's come out, that's when the leverage is with me.....or leans to my side.

However I can't wait too long because then people will be snatching up cheap GT's.

I've done some research on TMV/Edmunds they have a fair estimate of the cost of a GT.

~22.2K for a DSGrey Premium +IUP +ABS....then I'll have a $400 college grad rebate. Making it ~21.8K before the 05's hit lots.

I'd love to sneak it under 20K even if it's 19999, I doubt it, but we'll see come negotiation time.

If you are willing to travel, you can get some great deals at the really large dealerships.

I've seen 04 GTs for under $20K.

Also don't forget the fed just raised the interest rate...and from what I'm hearing it's going to go up again. It'll affect car financing only slightly but $ is $

Yea, that stinks, but I'd rather have a larger down payment than saving 1-3% on my payment.

There will always be a decent Mustang for sale. Don't Panic! Take your time, look around. Don't jump on the first one you see. You'll know it when it's right.

yeah there will always be cheaper cars to get. but try and get 0% financing if possible. that 2500 rebate might sound great and getting the car for 20,000 instead of 23,000 but when you factor in like 4.9 or higher for a 5 year loan you will spend alot more than what the rebate saved you. and with 0% you pay only on the car nothing else.

Yea I tried to get a in-stock report on all the GT's in the San Antonio Texas area(by the Ford site).

Then I know I'm visiting Dallas/Fort Worth Texas, around November/December. So then I searched that area, and Austin(which connects SA to DFW).

I found a dealership in Austin TX, that has 80....I repeat 80 Mustangs. I think only 20 are GT's, a few are the 40th Aniv. package.

But after searching the SA, Austin, and Fort Worth there were well over 60 GT's(which DID NOT include the Dallas area).

DSG/Silver/Redfire are very common colors......ironically I like them all. I'm more worried about my down payment more than I am of the actual deal.

Wish we had that many to choose from over here...the most one dealer has is 40 and only 14 of em' are GT's, no MACH's and only 7 Cobra's.

Yea, I want that thing paid off immediately. I'm just hoping to not have the interest rate jump on me right before I buy.

**BTW

s7v7n, out of those 20 GT's like only 11 are 5 spds. That dealership was flooded with v6's and autos. Like 12 silvers and 13 blacks sounds kind of crazy especially at this point of the year.

Basically your dealership has almost as many Cobras as this one does 5 spd GT's 7 to 11.

Yea my area stinks too, but with Austin close by and Dallas/Fort Worth area it's not too bad.

It's gonna be kinda hard to find a Black Deluxe auto. You'd save a few bucks going with a standard.....you'll get a couple better MPG. Performance wise.....the 5 spd will respond better to mods. This will be my first manual transmission, I know it can be a pain in a traffice jam(don't have too many of them here).

All the reasons why I'm going 5 spd.

I'm just saying if you find a Black Deluxe 5 spd, don't skip it because it's a stick. Example in Fort Worth they had a Black Deluxe 5 spd for $24,185 (stereo cd/mp3), but that's MSRP with invoice a few quotes some reasearch that deal goes down pretty quick.

Also I think Black has a premium on it, there was a Black and Silver Deluxe with only the cd/mp3 player and the black cost $175 more on MSRP.
