The Last Roundup: Ford corrals all its ponies in one last 601-hp Mustang

With more than a year to go until Ford’s Special Vehicle Team completes work on the next SVT Cobra (an ’07 model due in ’06), SVT and Ford Racing Performance Parts offer catalog suggestions for those who can’t wait for the ’07 SVT Cobra.
Starting with the current SVT Cobra (in this case an ’03 model) with a base price of $33,125, the Ford Racing/SVT partners propose adding nearly $14,000 worth of parts highlighted by a twin-screw supercharger, SVT Cobra R suspension mods and brake kit, and 18-inch chrome wheels.
What’s the sum of all these parts? Try 601 hp and 529 lb-ft of torque from an engine rated at 390 hp and 390 lb-ft in a garden-variety SVT Cobra. Ford folks say their tuner ’Stang is good for a 3.9-second 0-60 mph run, and an 11.9-second quarter-mile.
The best news is this beast’s road manners. Despite inoperative traction control (it would go crazy trying to manage all that power) and an exhaust report that will set off every car alarm in the parking garage, the modifications make this monster a reasonable everyday driver—especially for the everyday driver who likes a car that can burn rubber in three out of six gears.

Pretty cool. You could skip most of the interior mods, save $2,700 and get the price "down" to $11,200 in upgrades. Even cheaper still, don't go with the 18" rims, keep the stock 17's up front, and put AFS 17x10.5 on the rear. Save another $1,200 to $1,500, and get the final price down to under $10,000 in upgrades.

11.9 in the quater?? maybe with my little sister driving --sounds a bit low for 601 horses--then again that was probably spinning the tires all the way down the track
that is where my cobra will be someday(bank account permitting)
