'96-'98 Cobra or '01 Bullitt?

Ok guys, looking for opinions here. I'm about to sell my SVO (too big a project, tired of working on it), and looking for a replacement, I was originally eyeing a couple of Cobra's but then I ran across a Bullitt. I had forgotten about those now I know they made just marginally more hp/tq then a stock GT (if I remember the #'s have been updated to 275/305), and the tuned suspension where as the Cobra has the 32v. Bullitt is a bit more limited production/exclusivity, but it's still not an SVT, I am looking for something I can play with on the weekends be it a road coarse at the drag strip or just take it to a show/cruise in. I prefer the New Edge styling, but.. 32v is what's killing me here, short of finding an awesome deal on a Mach 1, the Bullitt & the Cobra are the two main choices here so let's hear some pros & cons for both as I have about two months to shop.

I dont think you need to hear my vote :P

but yeah, i can honestly recommend the bullitt. its alot of fun right out of the box and while the cobra has a little more uupmh right away, theres no shortage of ways to add the uumph later. plus... as vain as it is, the exclusivity factor is pretty fun :P theres alot of nice little touches that i wouldnt trade onn my car. even something as small and inconsequential as the gauges or the seat patter (not that it applies to me now with the racing seats lol) all sort of add up and make for a great day to day experience.

and finally DHG is the greatest color ever

Any interest in a 99 Cobra? I have seen them going for dirt cheap recently. Probably due to the fact that people who want a new edge Cobra either want the more luxurious 01's, or the terminators, but 9k is not completely crazy price wise. I have even seen a couple go for as low as 7.5k. That in my mind would be the best option, but the runner up to me would be a Bullitt. If you want some more power someday then slap on some trickflow heads and you'll hit the ground running.

Id go 98 Cobra. Im sort of biased. But the 98 cobra made more power than the 96-97. And if you are looking for exclusivity...check the production numbers. Made 5500 2001 Bullitts, 5200 1998 cobras

+1 for the Bullitt. While the production numbers may be close to the '98 Cobras, the Bullitts still have that something special about them. Everyone builds Cobras up. Not many people go crazy with their Bullitts, which makes it fun to do just that, IMO. And anyone can drop a 4V in to replace a 2V, but for me, the challenge of sticking with the 2V is the fun part. I'm in the middle of a big bore n/a 2V Teksid build for my Bullitt. It's going to be badass! I can'twait to get back and work on it, hopefully have it drivable by the early spring!

that's funny this came up because I am getting rid of my 01 Black Bullitt and going for a 96-98 Cobra. I personally am tired of the 2V and the spitting plug issue I have had the last couple of months. It was a fun car in the beginning but I am bored with it now.

Yeah I have looked at a cpl 99/01's as well, I wouldnt mind one but the 96-8's are just a littler cheaper....I am still about two months away, so if I get really lucky, I may be able to find a good deal on a Mach (my first choice) someone has traded in, as it is right now they are just going for more than I want to spend..

I had an '01 Bullitt for four years, just sold it a couple of months ago, and I already regret it in some ways. There is a good chance I'll buy another in the future. I've had a couple of friends with '96-98 Cobras and have some seat time in them, and I do prefer the Bullitt, overall I feel it is a little better package, although if I have seen some deals on 1999 and 2001 Cobras, and would probably look into one of those as well.

Go with the 96-98 Cobra. I haven't regretted buying it yet.

That's what I am leaning towards... right now I can probably buy a Cobra outright, as they seem easier to get locally, I'm just hoping that Mach prices drop in the nex two months

I'd probably get the Bullitt if I was in your position. You claim that you prefer the 99-04 style but prefer the power of the 96-98. Even though the stats of the 96-98 Cobras jump out at you it can be a little misleading. For whatever reason (i'm guessing gearing, suspension) the 99-04 GTs are pretty much the equal of a stock 96-98 Cobra at the strip. The Cobra has got the advantage of mod potential but it also comes at a greater cost.

This is just a suggestion but instead of looking for something "exclusive" why not consider a low mile 99-04 GT and make it your own. There are so many aftermarket options inside and out to make your car exclusive in it's own right. My friend's little brother just picked up a sonic blue 03 GT with 14k on it for $11,000..... and the car is fully optioned some stuff not available on the 96-98 Cobra (6 disc changer)...just giving you the thought of another option

Yeah I am really leaning towards a Mach, looks like they are coming down a little so hopefully I can buy myself a nice lil xmas present..I was considering an 05+ GT for awhile but I figure the Bullitt/Cobra/Mach won't depricieate as quickly as a regular GT. What I REALLY want to see are some drag #'s of Bullits vs Machs, I know the 4v has more hp but the B has a lower powerband.

I've run 12.97 @106.7 with a 1.87 60ft in my Mach on M/T DRs. (No tune, stock gears, no CAI, cats (Borla Stinger cat-back)). I've trapped as high as 108mph, and had a best of 1.77 60ft, but the above is my most complete run.

I know you are concerned with overall depreciation with an 05 GT but you shouldn't be. Overall the 05 Mustang is a much better platform for just about anything (modification, racing set ups etc...). The people who bought the car brand new are the ones who took the big loss on the car it shouldn't dip much more and considering that Mach1s and 05 GTs are selling for about the same price the GT should be a no brainer.......just a much better car stock for stock over any of the other cars you are considering just my .02

machs are insane drag cars. Like jason said, 12's on tire only. A mach is a solid .5-.8 sec faster stock to stock in the quarter.

Yar, that's why I want one...that & they are dead sexy in just about every color but DSG or Black, not gonna have the cash untill Nov or so, that's why I am hoping to see a bit of a price drop when thte new 5.0's are more prominant on the lots...in a perfect world I could snag an 08 Bullitt for the cheap but they are still north of 20 grand around here, so it loks to be Mach > Cobra > '01 Bullitt. All 3 have a lot of appeal and their pros/cons. I guess the reason I am wanting an SE car though is it's already had some performance upgrades over a stock GT and I'd just as soon have it hotter off the bat. I know that didnt add anything really, but I am at work today, and really, really bored....
