95 Cobra = Good road carver?

I am interested in making a corner carving machine. I don't need the best in the world, but I want it really good. Is the Cobra a good place to start and what should be done to achieve this.

I am thinking of the Maximum Motorsports GB-3 (Maximum Grip Box for a 1994-1995 Hardtop) but getting it a few pieces at a time.

I am interested in hearing:

Is the Cobra a decent platform to start with?

Is that a good package?

What if anything would you do different?

I would say, Yes. The platform allows for many modifications, heck FMC made a Cobra R specifically for corner carving. I have a friend who races in the N.A.S.A American Iron series in a 1995 Cobra. This link provides some specifications http://www.hyperperformancemotorsports.com/

I am curious as to what else you're considering for your corner-carving car. There are cars that come from the factory with a stiffer suspension and handle better (Lotus Elise for example), but the Mustang has such an intense aftermarket that you'd be able to find almost anything you need to stiffen up the car. I would even guess that you'd be better off with a SN95 than a S197 because there has been more time to develop SN95 parts, butIi don't really know about that. In any case, I think you'd certainly be able to build your Cobra to whatever specifications you want.

That is far more than I would do with it. It looks like the car set up that way could easily do more than I could make it do. Since I will have to get it one piece at a time, does anyone have a list of the parts in the order they should be installed.

Thanks for the help.

Well, it all depends which order you want.

I'll take my Mach as an example. I started with . .

Full Length Subframe Connectors
MM Adj. Lower Control Arms
Welded Rear Shock Tower Brace
MM 4-pt CC plates
K-member brace

Next I'll be getting . .

MM Pan Hard Bar
Bilstein Shock/Struts
Possible MM K-member (front coilover setup)

And I just plan to take some HPDE classes, no 'real' racing. Even now my mods have really stiffened my Mach.

I belive that a Cobra would not be a good platform to start with. You should just sell me your Cobra and you can get a nother car.

To be honest your car is a good starting point.

I woudl say a 95 cobra is a great starting point. It takes the best of both worlds really, you have the ability to build a great suspension base, and maximum motorsports is one of the best manuf. (Kenny Brown and Griggs Racing are also 2 top choices). And since it is still running a 5.0 motor, you have a HUGE aftermarket to choose from in the drivetrain department.
