hey all,

I am a gt owner for about a year now. I really dont have much knowledge in tinkering with mods and certains brands. I am looking at possibly getting some additional hp. I prolly am looking at maybe to do 50 more hp. I heard about the K&N CAI, flowmasters, and nitrous for about 81 hp on new mustang that horsepowertv showed this wk and Id like to do something similar with out much work on the engine minus the nitrous on my 04. I am also looking to make a shake while idle but nothing serious. I am wondering how much and if ford can do this or should i just get it upgraded to a stage kit??

thanx

Welcome to the site Mark!

I posted this once before In this thread: http://forums.bradbarnett.net/index.php?showtopic=6243

If I were doing the starting from stock mod list again on a 99+ gt, here is what I would do in order:
  • Gears (4.10's)
  • Subframes
  • Magnaflow Catback
  • Dr. Gas O/R X-pipe
  • JBA Shorty Headers
  • Steeda Underdrive Pullies
  • Accufab Upper Intake Plenum
  • 70mm Accufab Throttle Body
  • C&L MAF to TB intake pipe
  • Open Air filter for stock maf
  • Steeda Underdrive Pullies
  • VT Engines Stage 1 Cams (for the slightly bumpy idle you want)
  • Custom tune using SCT software.
Now good luck getting Ford to install this as most of it will void your warrenty, unless you are REALLY good friends with a service manager. With the VT cams, it should put you over 300hp at the flywheel (probably around 285rwhp). You could go stage II cams, but they will be alot more radical in both normal driving and idle. But they will put you over the 300rwhp mark more than likely.

Scott,

thanx a lot for the list. I like your mystic a lot. I had a 91 lx, but a 4 cyl, it was teal. If i needed new paint i'd do something similar. hmm, since i cant have ford install those and will void the warranty(i have 5yrs left), maybe a stage kit would be better even tho it is a lot of money and time.

If i just do muffs and K&N cai, would that void warranty? or is it stupid to try for 15 hp? Are stage kits on warranty if thru dealer?

I'm not sure what you mean by stage kit. I'd say just mufflers and a CAI shouldnt effect your warrenty, but if a dealer is a butt about it they technically can if they can prove that part caused the failure.

Scott,

You have the Steeda pullies listed twice, which one is out of order the 1st or 2nd?

Unless you have stock in the Steeda company, I think one needs to be removed.

Its ok Mark, but its not worth it unless you have a custom tune in the car that is increasing timing. Your car is tuned for regular octane, so it wont benefit from super.

hey scott, that looks like my wish list for xmas. can you tell santa to send them to my house??? and welcome mark. good luck with the dealers, they love to find reasons to void warranties. id say get the work done else where. they will do it cheaper any way and enjoy it. if it breaks the money you saved on ford doing the labor you could probably get another 4.6 long block

thanx for the welcomes. I might end up getting one of the stage I, II, or III for the mustang then. hmm, thanx scott for that, I've been told to run super with this engine by a few people and i think the book says also but i might switch now that u mention it and prices are up. I was paying $3.35 a gal for super at a point, :drive: .

I have an 04 Convertible and my mods and the impact are listed in my signature. My next step is to alter the gears for improved acceleration, no difference in HP but will have a large impact on feel and acceleration.

Per long Lewis Ford
The only Mods that did not affect the Warranty are:

Cat-Backs
Cold Air up to but not including the Throttle Body.

I am patiently waiting for mine to finish up - only got 3yrs or 44xxx miles left.
