1994 Mustang GT Stick Transmission Lost Fifth Gear*

I have a question, just wondering if someone could answer this, I have a 94 gt with stock t5 5speed trans. I was on the highway in 5th and suddenly it popped out like it went to neutral and now there's nothing there. Why did it do this??

What exactly do you mean by "now there's nothing there"?

I can put it in 5th and let the clutch out and it does nothing! No noise not a thing just like its in neutral. 1st thru 4th perfect, 5th nothing. It's the strangest thing. Every one I talk to don't know either. It's a 4 speed now!

Either a broken shift fork like stated, or the actual gear has came off the end of the shaft.

Could be a detent ball. The dent ball keeps the trans in gear by a spring pushing on the back side of the ball if the springs is worn this could cause it to pop out as well

Ok, is it a matter of just fixing the transmission? Or does it need to be rebuilt?

Depends on the actual cause. If its the shift fork, that's an easy fix, anything else I would get a rebuild done.

Mine was inside the bellhousing. Other then dropping the trans it was simple. No reason to open up the trans to do it.

0.o I think your confused with the clutch fork.... all shift forks are internal round the gears themselves.

Great, now my starter is acting up! It starts no problem when the engine cold but when the engine is hot the starter does nothing! I let it cool down for about half hour to an hour it then starts no problem. Must be the solenoid on the starter??
