Theft light popped out on my car

On my way to work I noticed my theft light was on, no it wasn’t flashing it was just on, my car still starts up with no problem. Anyone know what it could be. It’s a 2000 automatic v6.

Possibly a blown fuse/module? On a lighter note, welcome aboard!

The best action is to take that to a place that has a proper scan tool and get the codes/ask the car why it's not happy (as there are cases where there might not be an actual code, but it can show parameters that will indicate what's wrong). Not sure the parts store code readers will do that. But it's likely going to be something wrong with the PATS system, either the key the transceiver (ring around the ignition switch cylinder) or the PATS/ECU itself. And you might be on borrowed time... although I may be wrong, I believe the car will start only so many times when it's not happy with the Theft Light on, and then it will immobilize the car. You'll then be towing it.

In any case, I'd get that code read fairly immediately, if not just take it to the dealership/properly equipped and knowledgeable shop and let them deal with it. Oh, I'm sure it could be simple, I'm sure you/I could get the computers/scan tools that'd do the job... but I don't do drywall repair for a reason.

Hope that helps in some way. Welcome to the forums!
