Hi everyone! I just bought a 1994 Mustang V6 a few days ago and I did buy it with this "problem" but I thought I might be able to diagnose it here.

When driving the car the steering wheel is loose. What I mean is when I am driving, I can turn the wheel maybe an inch and a half in both directions (left and right) and it doesnt alter the course of driving straight. Is something just loose? Its prerry irritating but so far I have been able to live with it. I want to repair it eventually. What do you all think it could be???

Thanks for any help! :worship:

And for those that might want to ask, why not a V8? I live in Los Angeles ad gas is 2.70 for regular. 3.00+ for premium. So whatever few extra miles I could get out of my V6 was well worth it to me.

Sounds like some serious wear. That would fail the road worthyness test and be off he road here!

I think saying an inch to an inch and a half was an exaggeration. I just got back from running an errand it is more like half an inch. Either way it is still bothersome...

That was suggested to me, that I needed a new rack. Is this going to be expensive?

I managed to fix the problem myself. I stuck my head under the foot well and as I turned the wheel I looked at the "arm" There was this bolt that was pretty loose and I tightened it up. Turned the wheel and the problem was gone. I guess over time this just becomes loose? Anyway I am a happy camper.
