I'm planing to sell my Mustang. Since I bought F-150, either Mustang or F-150 was sitting in a garage which really doesn't make any sence. I have to pay insurance for both of them, gas ... I'm planing to get something really cheap with good gas mileage (maybe Honda CRX) to get me to college.

Anyway, I have 2000 Mustang 3.8L so I would like to know how much its worth. Its 5-speed-manual, 34,000 miles, torch red with white racing stripe (stripe is little damaged on rear bumper, but I have replacement stripe), everything power, AC, cruise control, CD and cassette player, alloy wheels...

How much do you guys think its worth?

Another question that I have is, I'm planing to sell it through private party. What is good way to sell car like that? Just put "For Sale" sign on him and hope for somebody to call?

Zoran,

You need to sort that stripe before you sell it, it will only put buyers off. As for the price, can't help there, I could only tell you what it would be worth here! Also, in my experience, just putting a sign in it doesn't work, you just get people talking to you about it, though they do not actually have any intention of buying it!

id suggest autotrader.com or cars.com as far as places to sell. i found my car on autotrader. you could try your local classifieds too.

as far as value...its tough to say. check kbb.com and edmunds.com. this time of the year isnt really the best time to sell a mustang...and the fact that yours is a 2000 (even though you have really low mileage) is working against you. good luck though..

Yea.......I'd spend a good weekend taking off the stripes. That'll help it sell.

Actually his might sell for between $7500-9000. I looked it up on Kelly Blue Book. It might sell just a little less because of the stripe, but it might not have much impact, if any. Don't worry that is still a pretty good deal though. I also did mine and I got a figure of around less than $6500 and mine is a 2003! But then again, mine's got nearly 63k miles on the clock.

IMO...I'd say just keep the car, because it will be hard to find a nice CRX that is still reliable for daily driving, unless you want to spend lots $$$ to fix it up. Also, mileage between the two is not at all that different, it just depends on how hard you drive it. Besides, would you rather suffer the indignation of driving a little dinky Honda or have more prestige in a Mustang?

I'm not in a hurry to sell it, if I sell it at all. I was planing to take the stripe off anyway so stripe will be gone very soon.
Since I have F-150 and I drive at least 100 miles each day so I need something with better gas mileage. That's why I though maybe I should get CRX, they can get over 50 mpg in the city (compared to Mustang's 14 mpg).

NADA (current as of January) shows retail of $9100 and trade of $7375. That should give you a good starting point. Yeah, definitely get that stripe fixed before putting it up for sale. We sold my wife's car (1999 Accord) last year, and had the best response from the good old-fashioned newspaper classifieds.

Edmunds says:
Trade-In $5,718
Private Sale $6,537
Dealer Retail $7,347

Keep in mind, the milage adjustment added $1200 and may/may not play in to the actual price you can get. I think $9100 would be *WAY* high for a 2000 V6 ...

man, i know weve been over this a ton of times but theres NO WAY you should only be getting 14 mpg with your v6. i remember when i was worried about my gas mileage (i made a thread about it) and since then ive been calculating mine. even in my gt with a few mods, me driving agressively and letting the car warm up a few minutes in the cold i still average a little over 16 mpg. theres no way you should only be getting 14. id suggest finding out why your mileage is so bad...you should be getting about 20 mpg right?

Heck, even my Mach gets 20MPG easy in a mix of city/highway driving. In fact, I've NEVER gotten less then 18MPG from her.

I can get 230-240 miles out of full tank of gas (16 gallons). I usually take it easy and I shift gears at around 2,000-2,500 RPM. Some people suggested that I should shift gears at higher RPMs; I tried that but gas mileage only got worse. My driving is half city-half highways, I hardly ever turn heat or a/c on and I usually start my car at least 10 minutes before driving.
I took it to Ford dealer few months ago, they couldn't find anything wrong, they reset the computer and gas mileage was back to normal for about 2 weeks. After that, it went back to 14 mpg.

maybe just because youre letting it warm up for so long? i dont know...even when its really cold here (like 30 degrees) i let mine warm up for like 4 or 5 minutes. but 10 is probably wasting a good amount of gas. if youre shifting at 2000-2500 you should be fine...thats where i shift if im just running errands or something...but when i take the car out on the weekend for some cruising i usually drive aggressively and shift closer to 3000. and i also usually wind it out to 5000 a few times as well. and even with all that i average over 16 mpg

There is something wrong with it, but dealer can't find what. They told me that they reset the computer and gas mileage was back to normal for about 2 weeks. After that, it went back to 14 mpg.

I agree with the others, something's wrong there. It might be your long warm up time. You might have a bad O2 sensor. (Check Engine light much?)

I routinely get over 300 miles per tank in my 1999 V6 automatic with over 100,000 miles. That means 21 or 22 MPG in mixed city/highway (including rush hour stop-and-go) driving.
