A friend of mine told me one mod I may want to do to my mustang is take off the electric fan thats in the radiator, and replace it with a lighter smaller fan and this frees up a few HP and runs about $200. I searched online for a product such as this but to no avail. does anyone know any details about any such item?

I thought about that until I sat in a traffic jam for 2 hours and the fan was on constantly......I do not need the extra 1/2hp that might be gained, I really wouldn't want to overheat the engine, there are several other mods you can do to free hp.....

This sounds dubious to me. You could probably get the same benefit by switching the interior fan from "vent" to "off."

Back in the old days, radiator fans were driven by the "fan belt" (that's what we used to call the accessory belt). It was not uncommon to replace this mechanical fan with an electric one. This had two benefits: it made for better cooling, especially when idling, since the mechanical fan was tied to the speed of the crank. It also removed a direct drag on the motor.

The electric fan (ANY electric radiator fan) draws from the battery and the alternator, so I doubt it would have a noticeable effect on available horsepower. The alternator's going to be turning regardless of which fan is behind the radiator, so I don't think it will make a difference.
