Great exhaust sounds?

I have a 99 and I was wondering what's a good exhaust setup for it? And maybe a few things to throw in the engine to make it sound better which isn't like a ridiculous price?

Welcome to TMS! - you might want to say hi in the Introductions section.

I presume (never assume) you have the 4.6? I never had that engine with a modified exhaust; I'm sure someone else could make some good recommendations. Mufflers are a relatively inexpensive way to drastically change the exhaust tone.

depends on what you like in sound but I enjoyed my 99 with just an offroad xpipe and stock catback. prob cheapest way to get sound and power. most are in the $200 range which is much cheaper than a catback.

It's a 3.8, what are somethings I can do so it doesn't have that crackling noise when the rpms start dropping? Also engine wise and exhaust, how can I make it sound more like a v8?

I can tell the difference between a 6 and an 8 and I'm not quite sure why - maybe its the musician in me but I can somehow feel it in the rhythm.

If you mean the growl of an 8, When I had exhaust ran on my Galaxie, the muffler shop was nice enough to sample a few mufflers with the car on the rack to get the sound I wanted. Someone should be able to make a reccomendation - maybe check some youtube videos...???

I have a Flowmaster 40 series muffler on both of my 3.8 Mustangs. Nice tone, not too loud. Gets rid of the grocery getter factory sound!

You will never make a V6 sound like a V8.

What I mean by crackling is like the, I guess you can say. Rice burner noise, kuz I watch videos on youtube and some cars just sound terrible and they have like that tuner sound upon revs, like what are good headers, mid pipe and mufflers that will make it sound pretty good

I have an 04 V6 with a Flowmaster Super 44 Series muffler. Big difference. I haven't heard a 40 Series, but I'm sure you can't wrong with either. I agree with with dcpirani though, you can't make a 6 sound like an 8, just make a 6 sound a littler beefier

I bought a kit out of Summit Racing. Changed the sound a lot. I think the kit then was about $250.
