The day that never ended
#1
To prove the durability of Mustangs, I decided to tell this tale. It's true, and for a mustang fan, it is suspenseful, sad, but then happy in the end (yay!)
...It was a hot July day, and I was going to pick my girlfriend up. She lives 20 miles away, and I didnt want to take the freeway (they are so played out in Southern California), so I took the (only) sideroad. A deserted 2 lane road with sharp turns, hills and such, named Temescal Canyon.
I wanted to get the car airborn (never again... never again) so i hit the whoop-de-doo's at 120 mph. I had the windows down, and the stereo OFF (wanted to hear the new dual exhaust!).
A banked turn came up, so i decided to hit it at, say... 80 mph - it's banked, so it will be cool (like NASCAR, i told myself). I suppose i cut the turn too close; the wheel hit the dirt, pulled that way. I then over corrected, then over corrected the other way, and went into the dirt siding.
The car was now sliding completely sideways- I was looking out the driver's window, watching things come towards me. All I could think of was "when will this stupid car STOP!?"
Eventually it did, backwards, on the side of the road. The dust was so thick, i couldnt even see the road. I got out (COMPLETELY unhurt. not a bruise, scratch... anything!) to assess the damage: rim destroyed, chin spoiler ripped off, bumper scratched and fallen, crossmember curled up, tailpipes bent.
...naturally, i forgot my cellphone at home, so i had to stop a trucker, and use his.
When i got home, i pronounced the car dead.... but a week later, i was driving it again!
A v-6 rim is VERY inexpensive. The crossmember was 250 bucks (from a junk yard, off of a wrecked 2000 silver coupe), the air bags are still not replaced (cut out the bag, bolted them back in... too expensive for now...) and the chin spoiler was in perfect condition. it attatched right back on to the bumper, which was easy attatched too.
I wish i had some before/after pictures. There was NO body damage (on both the car and myself)... and i drive much, much slower than before. A lesson learned, indeed!

Lesson learned I guess...
A little tidbit of advice, if you plan on selling the car anytime soon, make sure the airbags are in there, you can get in real trouble if you sell the car without them.
