Well, i took my V6 to the muffler shop and removed the catalytics converters, now it sounds kind of nice, i though of installing a flowmaster, would this do any good?
anyway my other question is, now without the catalytic converters the serve engine light is on, and i think it is because of this cuz i took the car to a shop and the ran the small OBD computer and it said catalyst efficiency below threshold


how can i fix this and get the freaking serve engine light off?

oh and i forgot, for the flowmaster, what is the size of the stock pipes of a 2000 v6????

 

I believe a tuner, like the X-cal or Predator can turn off the sensor for your non-existent cats.

 

The car has to be louder withouth the cats right? Can u make a soundclip and post it? Hope u got connections at the dealer because if they notice they are going to give u a hard time,at least mine would.

 

Most likely the dealer is going to void your warranty w/o the cats. Sad but true. car's going to be louder w/o the cats guaranteed... havent cut mine out yet cuz of warranty issues. I have flows on my car and love it. You wont be disappointed.

the SCT will turn off the rear o2 sensors, thats what's throwing your CEL. You can also pick up a pair of extensions thatll throw false signals and should clear it up. dunno if they make them specific for our car yet.

 

The code you are getting is correct. the downstream o2 sensors are there to make sure that cats are doing their work. It compares the upstream values to the downstream values.. and wants to verify the cats are working. Without cats your downstreams o2 sensors are seeing the same values as the upstreams and it knows the cats are not working (since they are out).

I'm not sure if you can get away with this on a mustang, but on my neon I don't have a downstream o2 sensor (I still have the cat). I use an o2 simulator. It basically sends fluctiating voltalge between .1 and .6 volts so it looks like an o2 sensor that is reading good values from behind a cat.

With the mustang running the CAN protocols I don't know if an o2 simulator would work.

Also, if you run into any kind of engine run problem the dealer will most likey first point to the no cats and won't do the work on it.. You will have to fight for any engine/engine managment waranty work.

Careful on the pipe size. I need someone to verify but 2.5 is for the GT and 2.25 is the V6. The reason I know this is I installed a Bassanni X-Pipe [2.5] and the shop had to use shims on the pipe coming from the cats into the x-pipe...

Again, someone needs to verify that the V6 pipes are 2.25 not 2.5

Unless the steeda one is something special.. They are really marking them up.

An o2 simulator is just a circuit that makes a voltage jump from 0 to 1v (staying below .5 more than above .5)..

I guess it is possible that they are something special for newer cars (e.g. vehicles using CAN) but as far as I can tell, the current o2 sensors are still just putting a voltage on a wire to let the computer know how much o2 is in the pipe after the cat.

The one I'm using on one of our cars (and have installed it on a friends car also) is from o2simulator.com. Total price was $30.. and worth every penny.. We had an issue with an occasional MIL and they sent us another one free (slightly modified for our specific car)..

I've heard of many other people using the same one (which is why I went with it), and I've even seen plans to make my own o2 simulator. The cost to make it myself would have been <$20 in parts.. so $30 isn't that bad of a price.. I just don't understand it when I see them for $60-$150.
