I normally drive my car pretty easily but there are just days when I like to give it all its worth you know?
So yesterday I'm driving and I keep 3rd into 3000 rpm's. Upon reaching the 3000 it starts to whine. Is this normal? I don't remember hearing this before.

Sounds like your third gear gears might be going bad.
My Ranger is doing the same thing, and I think it's the tranny because the gears sometimes make a grinding noise at idle in neutral.
I won't know until I have time to break it all loose and inspect the transmission.

Is it auto or manual? Does it whine in any other gears? Try holding it steady in second at 3000 revs and listen closely, if it is only third gear, you might need a tranny rebuild. How many miles has the car done?
Also, when was the last time the transmission fluid was checked?
All little things to check out!

Well my transmission fluid was changed at about 30,000 and my car is around 55,000 right now. It is a manual trans.
I'll give it a try in the other gears. I've only noticed it in 3rd so far.

As luck would have it my girlfriends brother works at Midas! He built the engine in 5.0 himself and I trust the guy quite a bit with my car. That and the work he would do for free! *rock*
He told me the part that I need is only about $3 but it would be 3-4 hours of work. Forget what he called it exactly. He also noticed that the clutch shakes some. If this little part doesn't fix it he said I might have to replace the whole tranny but he'll do his best to do what he can.
