Got FRPP Bullitt Pedals & the Steeda Mach 1 Grill kit from Mustang Tuning and installed yesterday ... surprisingly, the pedals were almost more difficult to do than the grill !!

The grill came with instructions but the pedals did not. I suppose pedal installation is pretty straight forward, but if there are some tips / tricks to make getting the clutch & brake pedals on easier I wish I knew them !! It would have been sooo much easier if the pedals were out of the car, but I really did not want to go there !!

Back to the Mach 1 Grill Delete Kit ... Steeda supplies two strips of double-sided tape instead of the correct hardware for mounting the lower trim. I'm sorry, but I just could not trust this to keep this down when the front of my car regularly sees close to 100 MPH speeds !! I also had a set of instructions that I had gotten off the internet ...
http://members.***.net/red9r/Installations...201%20Grill.htm
... in these instructions, he was able to install the 4 lower screws by removing the headlamp assemblies but without removing the bumper cover. I tried but gave up ... my arms, hands, & fingers are pretty good at this sort of thing, but this was just way too much !! Printed off the Bumper Cover removal procedure from my DVD Shop Manual and realized that I was more than half way there ... I needed to only remove 4 more nuts, 2 push pins, and un-plug my fog lamps to completely remove the bumper cover !! The time I wasted getting just ONE of those screws in following this guy's instructions took longer than getting the bumper cover completely off.
Anyway if you don't trust that double-sided tape like me, pull the bumper cover off before even getting the stock grill out ... it makes a "proper" installation a cake walk !!

I did the grill delete on my baby a couple of weeks ago. Ran into similar issues on the install. One thing that to note here: different delete kits fit differently. I got and OEM from the local Mustang store and the lower trim seats suprisingly flush. I would say the double sided tape is needed only on a case by case basis (depends on the bumper cover too).

Either way, the fact that the lower piece doesn't screw down or something is lame anyway.

Still, its worth it-the delete with the Mach 1 Chin changes the look of the car entirely.

Congrats on getting it done and enjoy the thumbs up you will be getting.

Will-fellow orange owner.

The "Steeda Kit" from mustangtuning.com IS ALL O.E. FORD parts, so it is ready to accept 4 screws along the bottom. It is just that Steeda does not supply them, they add the double sided tape and don't even mention the alternate and (what I'm assuming is the) correct installation using screws.

The other thing they cheap on is the correct tamper-proof torx screws for the pony. They just supply 2 phillips head sheet-metal screws which I feel are slightly too large for the holes. I used a pair of common Ford trim screws for now, but plan on getting the correct screws later (part # mentioned in red9r's intall instructions). A guy at work has a set of torx bits with the hole drilled in them, so I don't have to try and find this.

Will ... so you just installed yours without tape OR screws along the bottom ??

Doug,

I did it without any double sided tape or anything. It sits flat and according to people who have seen the car at freeway speed-it does not lift up. That being said-I am thinking of adding some tape just as extra insurance.

Will,

That is really incredible ... I'm no physics expert, but for sure thought that the 2 end blind plastic rivets could no way be enough to keep this thing down !! The double-sided tape may be fine, but I don't trust that either with the temperature variation we get up in Wisconsin.

About our "twin" cars ... I think I read in some previous thread your was an Auto, what else did it come with and what have you added ??

Mine was an order-out ... Premium Coupe with no other options. Picked the color because it is a pretty close match to the Calypso Coral (aka Poppy Red/Comp Orange) '69 I've had since the early 80's. What I've done to it ... well that's all in my sig. as I'm sure you've seen !! Did you know that Orange ended up being the least common Mustang color for 2004 ?? 4.5% overall production, 6.2% of Cobras, and 14.4% of Mach 1s.

Doug,

Yeah-I like being different. Not many other Comp Oranges out there.

Mine is an Automatic Premium with the "Interior Upgrade Package" which has the billett trim around the stereo and climate console, a billett ring around the shifter base, billett pedals, billett door locks and the modified head rests (the rounded ones, not the more bread loaf shaped). Interior is the dark charcol/black.

I have done the following mods:

Mach 1 Chin spoiler, Mach 1 Grill delete, Billett fuel door, aluminum letter inserts for back bumper lettering (painted black), etched glass running pony decals on rear quarter windows, thin, short billett antenna, K&N filter.

I also removed those stupid plastic strips that are in the fog light openings-it really opens up the car and makes it look less dorky.

I am not much into performance mods, but I am flirting with throwing the MAC bolt on dual exhaust and maybe 17 inch rims in the future although I really like the stock 16 inch rims that came with the car.

I just put Bullit pedals in my 1996 Cobra. The key to doing this is to submerge the clutch and brake pedal covers in very hot soapy water. This makes them very pliable and the soap lubricates the rubber so that it slips right on with a bit of coaxing. After they cool, the rubber shrinks back down and they are SNUG.

For the gas pedal, I did take the pedal all the way out of the car because you have to use a punch to drive out the pin that holds the stock pedal cover on. You need to disconnect the cable at the top of the pedal and then take out the two 13mm bolts. Then, the pedal assembly comes right out. It took me about ten minutes to drive the pin out because that baby is IN there.

I have the doublesided tape on my OEM grill delete and completely trust it. I too drive at 100 mph (sometimes!), and nothing has happened. It dries hard as a rock. I mean- your emblems are held on with the same crap- do you trust them at 100mph?
