Finally, something I should've done a long time ago. Got all the parts in and they're ready for install. This will be my first time installing a set of gears, but I have all my bases covered. I'm going to go ahead and change all the bearings and seals while I'm in there plus a rear end girdle .
[attachmentid=14379]
FRPP 3.73 gears
[attachmentid=14380]
modified cross pin
[attachmentid=14381]
Richmond Gear install kit
[attachmentid=14382]
Dallas Mustang speedcal
[attachmentid=14383]
TA peformance rear end cover

There's some other stuff like fluids, threadlocker, axle bearing/seals etc.
I'll be sure to post some pics of the install to show what's involved.

Before I got to the end of your post I was thinking " I hope he'll take pictures and show us how its done"! Thanks for stepping up!

I think in a year or so I'd like to pick up another V6. Any year between 02-04. maybe an 05 if I find one cheap enough. I just want to make some thing faster. Learning from you guys will have to suffice for now.

All the parts shown above plus axle bearings/seals and fluids ran about 600. The rear end cover isn't necesary but that added another 160, so I guess the parts would run about 450ish. I already had some of the tools needed for the install like a dial indicator and torque wrenches and stuff, so I decided to buy the few extra tools I needed instead of paying for someone to install. I spent about 200 on xtra tools, some of which I plan on using for a trans rebuild too.

Sweet! Are you still using the stock 7.5" rear or did you switch to an 8.8?

Alright, sorry to keep you guys waiting. Ran into a few problems. I only have pics of part of the disassembly. I ran out of batteries in my camera. I will tell you that if this is a first time gear install, get someone who's done it before to help you! I found out a few things the hard way. The install took a while. A few things to note would be that a seal puller will NOT get the axle or pinion seal out. They were harder to pull than the bearings. A 20 lb. maul was required to get the pinion gear out. With 3.73s and higher, you need to put the cross shaft back in BEFORE you install the new ring gear. Everything went together well except the pinion nut wasn't tightened enough because I got a false reading on the bearing preload . I ended up having a shop fix my mistake. Doing this in your driveway is very possible, but learn from my mistakes . I'll get back later with a few pics and stuff.

It's a difference I can very noticeably feel. The only downside is I have to adjust to the new shift points. Gtstang, I'd say go with 4.10's for auto. Cruising RPM may be a little high, but you'll love the acceleration and how fast you rip through the gears.
