2000 Mustang V6
2000 Mustang V6
Im 17 years old and Im looking to buy my first car. I found a 2000 Mustang V6 with 65k original miles on it. The seller wants 3900 for it. The listing says it is a senior owner and that the car was well kept and maintained. Im going to look at the car tomorrow. Any suggestions on what to look for, pricing, or anything else would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Take it for a long test drive. Get everything warmed up,mash the gas pedal hard. Put the car thru some hard miles and check the oil before and after to see if there is any significant change(air bubbles, discolouration). If it's gonna break make sure it's still his. And the sixxer is a pretty tough motor. And a new edge is a great car. Good luck and I hope it works out for you

Sounds like a sweet price! And yea those v6 edges are pretty quick for under 200hp and they get good mileage. Great deal, just make sure evrything works right, take that long drive (if owner allows it) if he doesnt allow long runs, try one just around the block couple times and talk to him bout it. Strike up a good convo, and if youre lucky maybe hell lower tye price if he knows itll be taken care of!
Hey Thanks guys, I went to see the car today. Test drove it and the engine sounded pretty good. The car does have some cosmetic issues but thats to be expected. The roof is a little dented in from a kayak (didnt know people use mustangs to carry a kayak, thats a first) and the rear left fender was hit in a parking lot. The color has started to fade but i plan on getting it painted. The owner said that the tags are expired but if i can get tags, i can take it to a mechanic so if im getting a friend of mine who's a dealer to lend me dealer plates so that i can take the car to my mechanic before i buy it. Ill keep you guys posted. Hopefully I can lower the price a little and have it by the end of this week
Sounds like a good buy! Decently priced for that condition!! Best of luck with it! I love my 2000 v6 fun car decent mpg and Insurance doesnt kill me! All in all a mustang is a good choice and fun first car! Be safe!!!
Hey guys, so i took the car to my mechanic and here's what he told me. The car needs new brake pads, brake calipers, shocks, and tires, battery cables need to be replaced, and there is an oil leak. The owner is only willing to go down to 3700 and i gave him an offer of 3k after i heard from my mechanic. Now I believe thats a reasonable offer and so does my mechanic. If you guys could give me your opinion on a reasonable price that would be great. He says he has other offers, So Im gonna just wait it out because im not going above 3k for that car that need all that replaced.
It's a fair price. But how high are you willing to go. Money talks. Let it sit there for another week and walk up with folding cash. You can get brakes of eBay really cheap including drilled or slotted rotors and how bad and from where is the oil leak. A high mileage oil will swell the gaskets and solve that if it's small. Give it a week and if you still want it go up a couple hundred, and have it in cash. Seeing a stack of bills has a way of changing a mans mind. Good luck and I hope it works out for you

Why does it need calipers and how can your mechanic tell? I am a auto tech and the only way to tell if you need new calipers is if you take them off and cant compress the piston back in. Seems like this mechanic is just trying to make some pennies from the deal as well. Shocks really are similar. Best way to tell is to drive it hard for about 20 minutes and then park it. Reach in and put your hand on the shock. It should be pretty warm. If its cold you need new shocks. Only other way to tell is to take them out and compress them yourself and watch the action and feel the resistance
Thanks I try to take good care of her! Thats smart thinking waiting it out for a bit! There's a lot of nice mustangs out there! I'm glad to see ya taking your time and thinking about it! I agree with Everett though a stack of bills changes a mans mind on prices

Black stallions all the way!
I remember my first road trip, brings tears to my eyes... Drove from corpus Christi Texas to LA! I just mashed the pedal every hundred miles or so to keep things fresh and exciting. And don't get too caught up in the moment while your cruising cuz cops WILL find you (they definitely found me). Just use this trip to really get to know the car. That's about all I can say. Congrats on the buy!
