Question ;tTrying to remove factory shift ****.. but cant

Need help.. I am trying to remove the factory style 5 speed shifter **** off my hurst short throw shifter this is on my 93 LX with a Factory T5. ...the problem is, the leather **** wont budge to unscrew.
I have tried channel locks..... the **** simply wont budge. I DO Not see any kind of set screw for the **** etc.... has this thing been JB welded on perhaps? I was gonna install a **** from CJ pony parts but unless I can remove the old one, this is a dead in the water mod. Anything I can do?
Should there be a set screw on the ****?

If its the factory or factory style **** it should just unscrew. No set screw is in there. Counterclockwise direction.

Previous owner must have put threadlock on for some idiotic reason. It should unscrew fairly easily.
