Ive got a leaking gooseneck gasket and we are going to put in a new thermostat while were in there. I want to get a fail safe thermostat just to be safe (Not to mention its cheaper than a motorcraft one). Autozone has two differente ones. They have a 180 and 192 degree ones. Which would be better. Not sure if it matters or not but our car is mildly modified.

No lower than 180*. Be careful about "cheap" thermostats too, not all of them open at their recommended temp and some won't even open at all!

tru dat, you get what you pay for with thermostats. I have a Stant 180 degree, its reliable and the temp gauge always stays at 180 but it took longer to warm the interior up in the winter. A recent MM&FF article said a 180 degree thermostat is worth about 5 rear wheel horsepower.

Depends on what kind they are. If there regular hex head box then use a combo wrench Ours had one on the lower side and I had to stick the wrench under teh a/c pump and just take little turns with it. If its a carp screw then get some allen wrenchs with a ball end an use them.

No matter how you do it, the bolts are a PITA... 1/8" turn at a time, then flip the wrench, etc...
