Stroker build!!!??

Alright fellas, I'm looking into doing a 331 stroker build in my 1992 5.0 lx 5speed. The car right now is just a 302 with bolt ones (b-cam, cai, full exhaust, short throw, clutch etc). So basically what I'm looking for is any advice at all for this stroker build. I want to do it over winter.
I want to do the 331 stroker with nice set of heads, I have a e303 cam that's gonna go in, and a nice upper and lower. So some questions that I have are...
- will I have to do any suspension work to handle the motor?
- will the trans hold the power?
- what are some good rotating assemblies for good prices?
- basically rebuilding the whole car bit by bit just looking for suggestions and some help
Thanks guys!!

I did a 331 stroker build in my 89 GT. I did it a little differently than you in that I had a shop build the motor with heads/cam/intake that I supplied. I went cheap on the HCI (ported e7 heads, e303 and cobra intake) but splurged on the labor and rotating assembly because I wanted it bulletproof.

You definately will want/need to do suspension work. In my case I did full length subframe connectors from Maximum Motorsports, Ford C springs and Bilstein shocks/struts. Out of all of the the subframes were the most important.

I ran the stock T5 but mine was in really good shape. I pulled it apart and had it checked first. Common wisdom from my research was that the T5 would not hold up to spirited driving for very long. I had planned on a T5 world class.

IIRC my shop used an Eagle rotating assembly.

My advice? Do your suspension work first. Do brakes!!! Absolutely do brakes. If you want to stay cheap do an 86 SVO conversion. If you want to do it right do the 03 Cobra brakes. The Cobra brakes will require spindle swaps, both will require new master cylinder. I've done both and the 03 Cobra brakes are the ants pants in a Fox body.

Thanks man,
Yeah I was looking at the eagle and scat rotating assemblies, but I just found dss kit for $880 which is pretty good. As far as HCI I'll prob do some edlebrock heads and upper and lower and I have the e303 already.

The suspension I have to look into more. I was planning on doing Lakewood Shocks and struts, I was def gonna get subframe connectors. I'm not to familiar with suspension so I don't even know where to start. And I'm not even sure exactly Wat the subframe connectors do (just stiffen the chassis?).

But thanks for the help man, helps a lot on what direction to head in.

Subframe connectors reduce flex and body roll.

No problem, happy to help. I forgot to mention a couple of things. If you go the 86 SVO route then you'll need the rear brakes from a 94/95 GT to go with the SVO fronts.

No matter what suspension you do, you'll also want caster camber plates for fine suspension alignment.

I know I keep harping on the brakes but if I had done my brakes right I wouldn't have totalled my car.

No I definitely hear you about the brakes, if you wanna go fast you better be able to stop fast!!! I was looking into it the other day and I might do the disk conversion in the rear and do a big brake in the front, they have kits on 50resto.com that I was looking at... Kind if pricy tho

Also when you did your build, did you make good power out of the 331?
I mean I have seen people with 331 builds that aren't making good hp out of it but then I see people making nice power out of them.
I guess just has to do with the HCI you do.

Unfortunately, I only had it running for 2 weeks before it got totalled. I never got a chance to track it or dyno it. Seat of the pants was a little disappointing down low but really pulled up top. Probably because of the Vortech. I was only running 6psi but built it with real low compression for 10psi in case I got the S-Trim. If I had to do it over again I would get Edelbrock or AFR heads, not the ported stock ones.

I still have that engine sitting on a stand....
