Smog Pump Removal?
#1
Has anyone removed or bypassed their smog pump, and if so did they notice an improvement in performance. Also I will be retaining my catalytic converters, so will I have problems with burning them up? Any opinions would be appreciated.

If you gonna keep the cars, retain the smog pump, in fact if your gonna stay with the factory compy tune, keep all the emmissions equipment.
Ohhh... read your sig, dump the smog pump on the carb car and dump the cats or hollow them out

i have no belt connected to my air pump and my air tube is cut off and welded shut because i don't have any cats! (previous owner did it, now i gotta spend a lot of bucks to fix it) unless you're good buddies with an inspection garage i'd leave the smog/air pump operational, if your state has emissions laws, that is.
I read once that the inside of some catalytic convertors can get up to a few thousand degrees and the outside of the cat about 600 degrees or so, so I have a feeling you might want that "fresh" air coming in the cat from the pump, but yes you will free up some horsepower without the air pump and cats.
So if you're state doesn't have emissions laws, get rid of all that crap i say
