I saw some posts regarding the smog pump eliminator that suggested either removing the cats or rodding them out. Is this necessary or would a good set of high flow cats be ok?

Buy a off-road h-pipe and a shorter belt to bypass the smog pump. That way if you need your cats later you still have them.

A nice X-pipe by bassani or somebody else would be nice as well.

I know your area of VA and think you still have emissions to regularly go through...so cats would be a must in your area. Depending on VA's inspection if visual or not you may or may not get away with an eliminator. You can install High flow cats without an air tube depending on the style...most aftermarket cats do not require you to have pre-cats as the factory had so you can get away with just a pair of them.

I have put off the smog pump eliminator until I upgrade the exhaust system with high flow cats. As far as inspection goes, I know a few inspectors that check very few things. I have however installed my under drive pulley kit. I could not get the alternator pulley off the alternator though. My strap wrench would not hold the pulley so I tried a large pair of pipe pliers on the pulley. This kept the pulley from spinning put now the entire shaft that it rides on spins. Any suggestions?
