Replacing 90 5.0 LX auto oil pan gasket...

....Is it really an 'all day job' like my local Ford Dealer told me?

What is all involved in this? Curious.

Thanks.

On your back....a tough all day job. On a lift....disconnect battery, undo exhaust, drop it out of the way, un bolt engine mounts and tranny mount. Support and lift engine/tranny combo. You should be able to get to all pan bolts, drop and remove from front. You may have to unbolt and lower K member (support) , I have done jobs both ways, dropping K member is easiest way.

That was the last thing to get replaced on my fox before it went to body work. A friend and I did it on a lift and it took about 3 hours to complete, we used all air tools and transmission lifts, etc... All day no, 3 hours and about 20beers with 2 people yes.

My thing is that I didn't have the equipment or tools to do it myself, so I had to bite it and have the shop do it. Several hundred dollars, but it was worth it. It's a 1990 25th Anniversary convertible with 90,000 miles that is still in great shape body-wise, really just needs a good buff/wax job and it will look like a new car. It never saw a winter until 2008. New top a few years ago, new exhaust last year. Great car.

Thanks for the responses.

Nice looking car, with the age and miles I would suggest changing the rear main seal and other lower gaskets and seals while the car is lifted and apart, also gives a chance to inspect the clutch.
