Quick Simple Question...
I was just wondering how big you could stroke a 351 block to? I though that it was a 427? Maybe but Im not sure. I could probally look it up and find out in 2 minutes but I rather just post and check up on it
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
Yes, actually there are plans in the making. I want to do something that noone has (atleast in Hamilton NJ... which is a 4-- motor in a mustang). I think that I am going to go to a junkyard, pull a block, have it restored, stroke it to 4 something (not sure yet), put some afr 205 heads on it and work from there. I want something thats going to be ridicilous w/ all motor. And also something that I can finish in a year or 2. Its going to be a huge project. Any suggestions on how I should do it?
Use a 351W and stroke it to a 408, it will make good power and it wont be so front heavy, and u already have the cowl hood to fit it under. a 460 would be awesome, but it would require a real stiff front suspension.
I called a couple of places to see about 351's and I found a complete 351W w/ tranny (witch I didnt want but would of taken it), wiring, etc. and it was already pulled out for 500 bucks. I only had 450 and they wouldnt drop on the price. I sat down and thought about it though, by the time that I get the motor (from a junkyard), strip it, bore it, stroke it, blueprint it, re sleeve it, etc. the money that I will spend on that I could just buy a short block allready assembled. Its just going to take me a while to save. But im tryin. Im working 55hrs/week plus school. Its tough but will be well worth it.
good luck. i think a 408 is the biggest most companies recommend w/o having to make major clearancing adjustments. and the longer the stroke the more force excerted on the crank and the easier it is to break stuff.
Yea. I barely have money to build this motor so breaking stuff is the last thing that I want to happen. I just want something thats going to be able to run on the weekends without being worked on constantly and from what Ive heard a 408 would def. be the best choice if that is the route that I want to go. Thanks for the help.
