Questions about cowl hoods
My dad is thinking about getting a cowl hood for his 93 LX. Only problem is what to get. What height? Standard or Extended?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. One question im realy interested in it will an extendend cowl hood work with the hood hinges and clear the windsheild or will the hinges become obsolete?
Again thanks for your help.

an extended hood will have to be secured with 4 pins or more and u cannot use hood pins with it, the normal cowl hood is the best for a street car such as your fathers. I would reccommned a 2.5 inch cowl, but it doesnt matter what height as long as u like the look of it.
Unless it is a track only car, dont get an extended hood. It would be a pain to have to lift the whole hood off every time you need to check the oil or something.
I like a 3.5" cowl, but I kind of like large cowl hoods. It sounds funny, but if anyone that is driving the car is a short person, a smaller cowl may be more appropriate.
One last thing. When shopping for a hood, dont get cheap. There are some great hoods out there, and there are some really crappy hoods out there. Usually if you find one that is alot cheaper than all the others, it is that way for a reason. You may save $150 on your hood, but then have to pay an extra $200 for someone to paint and install it becuase you got a poorly made, poorly fitting piece of junk. I have heard the cervinis stuff is good, and ho fibertrends makes a very nice looking product.

I have a 4" cowl that was on my 91 LX when I bought it last year. I like it. It is a pain if you are short. My brother couldn't see well when he drove it. Going up hills can be tough too b/c it amplifies the height. I am keeping it though b/c I love the look of it.
Alot of it depends on how tall you are. I am 5'8 now but when I got the car I was like 5'6 w/ a 4' cowl. It was good when you were driving in a straight line but when you have to make right hand turns it can get annoying because you have to slide yourself all the way up the seat so that you dont hit any curbs. But imo I love the 4'. All the frustration is worth it. They look sick. Or a 3 1/2. Cant go wrong with either.
I don't know, personally I dont care for big cowl hoods inless theres a monster under the hood, and theres no other way to cover it then with a massive cowl. A little cowl is alright, but some of these cars around with HUGE cowl hoods just look rediculous. Just a htought, but have you considered any other hoods???
i like smaller cowls and yeah, stay away from extended unless you needs it.
but you really cant go wrong if you're puttin a cowl on a fox
altough the ram air hoods are cool too (actually i prefer those)
but hey its your....er...your dad's car lol. get what he wants ( do i sense a father's day gift?
)
