Hi,

I finally got around to having the TRX tire / alu rim combo installed that I bought last summer. Now what do you think - is this better than the original wire wheel covers?

before:

after:

I am still not quite sure if I should leave it like this or put the whitewalls with the wire wheel covers back on - they seem to have been very classy in hindsight.

BTW, for those who are not familiar with my car yet - it is a 232 cui V6 2V which is not too lively but very nice for a cruise. Which may be another reason to stick with the less wide tires...

That looks nice man! I like those rims. I don't know about whitewalls, I'd imagine it wouldnt change a whole lot. Very classy looking car, I havent seen many four eye-V6 converts.

Thank you 63galaxie!

When referring to whitewalls, I actually meant the tires that I had on the car before putting the TRX's on - they were in fact not real whitewalls but had a white line that in my opinion went very well with the white pinstipes on the car (see "before" picture)

the TRXs look nice. oh and i love the pony instead of the blue oval

its inginuitive little things like that that make or break a car

and let it be known, that if i had to buy a fox bodied vert, thats the body style i would get! nice choice!

is that old 232 the same as the one used by SN95s?, cuz maybe you could convert it to EFI and get some parts from the newer sixers and add a little oomph to your ride. plus it would be really cool cuz technically, its the "original engine" but it would be up to the specs of say, a 2004 car just a thought

Future9er24,

You got it - I've been thinking along those exact same lines over and over again.

As far as I know the block is identical. I guess that if I would come to the point of having to rebuild the original engine some day, I'd actually try to do an EFI conversion or a '04 V6 engine transplant.

The question is, would the German TÃœV (agency for vehicle inspection and road safety) let me get away with it or would I also have to upgrade the brakes etc...

Time will tell. Thanks everybody for their great feedback!

Andreas, those TRX wheels go great with the early four-eyed fox chassis Stangs Keep them on and if you change your mind again you can always change back to the old wheels.

The TRX's really set the car apart from the other GLX's.

Keep the car original.
Red Star,

It's a late response, but anyway - the TRX tires and alu wheels were an original option for the Mustang GLX in 1983. I have the '83 Mustang brochure from Ford where all wheel options are shown. There is also this photo on the web which I believe to have been issued by Ford as well (even though it shows a 5.0 model).

In general, I totally agree with you that Mustangs from previous decades reflect the lifestyle of the respective times best when kept as original as possible.

Like 1999 Black 35th GT wrote, I'm going to keep both sets of wheels and change back to the "other" original style (see attached Ford advertisement) when I feel like it.

Thanks again to everybody for their comments - it's so much fun to share all this with you guys!

A.G.

I like the TRX wheels...just don't like the price of the tires for them...

I say keep the TRX wheels on it, looks much better and you NEVER see them anymore simply because of the cost of replacement tires.

i dont see why not (although maybe laws are different over there in Germany)

lol, and until i checked your post again, i had no idea you were from germany! and i have a feeeling that an 04 transplant would be much simpler than rebuilding it and converting it. and plus, theres a decent aftermarket for it aswell so im sure you could give it a nice amount of HP too...

good luck with it!

oh and svopaul, how much do TRX tires cost for one set?
