power surge , "occasionally "

The other day while cruising the HWY about 70 mph. My car started doing a mild power surge like the gas was cutting out. But then it would go back to normal. The when exiting the HWY and I come to the stop signe it just died. But it did restart. "Hard start".. But now It seems to start real easy so far. My first thought was the fuel pump or filter. So I changed the filter but the filter was clean and new looking. The IAC is fairly new. And I did clean the T Body. "My fuel gage is stuck in the full position." Any thoughts on this will help. Dropping the tank for a new fuel pump is a bit of a job for me. So I was hoping it may be somthing else. And every time when I turn the key to on, I can here the pump runing for a few seconds.

Sounds like the fuel pump it's on it's way out. But I would also check the TFI module, Ignition switch, and ignition coil.

Good luck, and post up the results.

I had same thing on my 1991 bronco with a 302.
It was the modual inside the distributor.
Was a pain to change because you have to pull the whole distributor apart.
But fixed my problem.

Ok cool. At least that algives me a starting point. My fuel gage stays waaaaaay above full. So I'm thinking that is the sending unit. Also. Gues it's time to drop the tank and do them both. Thanks I'll have to google how to change the module in distribute. But thank for mentioning that. Cause I didnot even think of that one.
