Painting the tailights on a 93 GT?

OK, I was going to remove the louvers, from the tailights, on my 93 GT but, after removing the lights from the car, it appears that you can't remove the louvers? So, how do I paint the louvers? I'd assume that I'll have to mask off every individual louver of tailight and paint it as a whole piece?

I think masking it is the only way to do it

Funny you should mention GT tails! I took apart a set today and even the light diffusers are molded into the lens in the same louver shape internally. I was planning to modify them, but oh well...

The louvers are part of the lens and not removable. If you were to sand the paint off them you will see them turn red as the lens material is revealed. These royally suck to tape up and paint...I've done them and dislike it. You have to have an exacto knife and masking tape...tape them and trim accordingly with the knife.

Yeah, I figured it out, not long after I posted this... I've got my knife and green tape, so I plan to mask it off tonight or tomorrow and hopefully get these painted next weeked.

IMO, dump the cheese graters and go with lx, cobra, or svo tails.

No, I'm restoring this car, it's all original. When I sell it, I don't care what the next person does to it.
